if we ever leave a Legacy

The Legacy Fanfiction Archive is open to submissions.

1. Who are you? We are me, [livejournal.com profile] sabine101 and anyone else who wishes to support the project, including [livejournal.com profile] wearemany, [livejournal.com profile] furies and [livejournal.com profile] pene. [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun is also here on her own recognizance.

2. What's the project? We're aiming to have an archive, The Legacy, which will exist as a kind of time capsule, as if we're leaving fic to future generations.[*]

3. What can I submit? Any author may submit one (1) story of her choosing. Her favorite, her best, the one she thinks best exemplifies the characters in a situation, whatever. This should be an old story from your own archive and something you've already posted elsewhere, though you should feel free to edit or clean up the story before packaging it to the archive.

(On Edit: [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun points out that it does NOT have to be an old story, which is to say, if the story you're currently writing or the story you're about to write is gonna be the best, go ahead and write that for this archive. But once you pick one, no switching! I'm only one girl, here!)

4. What kinds of stories are eligible? Any story, any fandom, any pairing, slash, het, gen, AU, XO, anything. The only rule is that each author may only submit ONE story, from her whole canon.

5. What if I write with another author? Or under several names? This is a judgement call. If the stuff you write with another offer is distinct in that it was co-written ("Iolokus" comes to mind), it's certainly eligible, and you should feel free to post one of your own stories as well. If you write under various names but they're all just you, we recommend you just pick ONE out of all the stories you've written, despite the author name. Since that'll be hard to enforce, as I say, judgement call. If your various personas have distinctly different styles or voices, you'll just have to discuss that amongst yourselves.

6. How do I submit? We need a complete copy of the story in html format, e-mailed to legacyfic@rock.com. You should also include a short paragraph about why you chose that story and what it means to you or to the fandom. In addition, please provide along with your author name a short bio or profile about yourself.

7. When's the deadline? No deadline. Keep sending, we'll keep building the site.

8. What can I do to help? If you have a domain on which this site could be hosted, please volunteer and create a subdomain for "Legacy." If you have design skills and are interested in designing the site, help! [I'm talkin' to you, LJ user [livejournal.com profile] ptpatricia] Down the line we'll need archivists and formatters too, so be sure to let us know if you're interested in any of that.

[*]9. What about fan art/vids? Yep, we want those too. Again, one piece, your best or your favorite or whatever, sent to us in archivable format. And nothing too hugely huge, unless you're one of the patron saints of domain space. *g*

Please spread the word about this archive to any groups or lists you might be on, and make sure everyone knows their fic is welcome. We're looking to have a technical assload of stories, once this gets moving.

Any questions, ask me. And any ideas or volunteers, please comment below.
