it's to keep the ALIENS from STEALING your THOUGHTS

*I* am staying in tonight, the first Saturday in AGES, and retiring to a bubble bath with my book on iPod. This being, of course, Dark Tower VII, and I've got about eight-ten hours left to go so I'm trying to let it linger (while desperately needing to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!). [livejournal.com profile] _maayan is off to the bar to represent, yo, take one for the team, as it were, and tell Shox that I'm wet and naked at home with no interest in anything else. *g*

Last week I was in NY for Dad's 70th birthday -- photos to come, including some highly adorable ones of baby me and baby [livejournal.com profile] spycookies -- and I blew off this week under the pretext of recovering from my cold and writing the Great American Screenplay about Abe Lincoln, but next week it's back to the grindstone and 40 hour weeks with the DNC. Which is fortunate if for no reason than I need the money, putting aside the great Democratic post-election ennui that needs a sharp kick in the ass. I'll keep you posted.

But mostly, mostly, I'm suffering sensory overload. I ain't built for this rockstar lifestyle, yo! THOUGH, yesterday I saw Jason for the first time in weeks -- M and J and I went out to a little middle-eastern place and sat quietly in the courtyard and drank Lebanese beer and spoke like civilized people, which was long overdue and very nice. Ostensibly the extended Jason-Chris-Elijah brigade is having brunch tomorrow at some ungodly hour, which may or may not also be calm and civilized, but it sure as hell better be if I'm waking up at 8:00 for it. But I swear, I haven't spent so many nights a week drinking since COLLEGE. [livejournal.com profile] pene, you would not recognize me what with all the groovin' and bar-hoppin'. I need a WEEK holed up in my room, is what.

While we're on the subject. Or not. I notice I've got some new friends since I laid the smackdown on Jason's behalf regarding his photographs of Elijah et al. Welcome welcome, there's nothing wrong with new friends, but if you're expecting me to be some sort of font of Elijah info I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I don't know Elijah terribly well yet, we only met a couple months ago through Jason and Shox, and even if I did, I'm not in the business of using this LJ to chronicle anyone's life but my own, and me, I'm just yer run-of-the-mill fangirl. It's also worthwhile to let you know that I've known Jason and Shox for YEARS, and they're both well aware of my porny fangirl habits -- and Lij et al are certainly aware of the internet's interest in them. So, y'know, keep on keeping on -- I have always endorsed a healthy fannish lifestyle, and plan to continue mine for years to come. *g*

I'm also not terribly familiar with the LOTRips fandom (everything I know I learned from my loyal henchwoman [livejournal.com profile] esorlehcar) but -- as I venture toward being part of canon what with this new surreal twist my life has taken, I find myself exposed to some marvelously tinhatty freaks. So, you know, if you're a freak, and you're reading this, basically as long as you don't show up at my house and throw stuff or try and harm my family we'll all get along fine. Yes? I'm not in the habit of friends-locking my LJ (I tend to use that to keep RL friends *out*, and therefore only lock it if I'm, like, bitching about my current girlfriend or boyfriend or co-worker or boss) and I don't wanna, but maybe I'm just being stupid. Seriously -- is anyone out there plotting to harm me or my family? If I friends-locked this journal, would that PROTECT me or my family? [livejournal.com profile] spycookies, are you afraid of tinhats harming you or Beanie? And -- world at large -- do you think I'm being stupid? Am I putting myself in danger? How dangerous ARE these LOTRips people?

In conclusion, a kitten, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh, and I am off off off to the Dark Tower and a bubble bath for mon peau sensible!

(Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] likethesun, [livejournal.com profile] gamesiplay, whatever hat you're wearing, and [livejournal.com profile] septicemic [purveyor of fine icons everywhere], go have lunch together on my behalf and I'll buy you both dessert and I'll even text-message your cell phones while you're there so I can participate in the festivities.)

*slides in under Eso* Argh am not an LJer so I can't even share my ICON LURVE.

Hi Sabine, am popping in to add my wee ugly self to the hoopla over at this end of the cyber net. Frankly I don't know how you are functioning at all after the elections, although I am so very glad that you are. We (collective "we") need you to be, need everyone at DNC to be. I'm still stunned, though I shouldn't be I suppose, and I didn't even work on the campaign. It's absolutely horrifying.

Anyway, reaching beyond election ptsd and back to topic. Am tin, or ex-tin, or simply disgusted at the vehemence of tin. Something made of thin metal with smooth edges. I don't hang with the crowd anymore, although I've kept a few close friends and cherish those a great deal. Some good people and well worth keeping.

I've no problem with the tin canon, simply with the few that get way too personally invested in such a thing. What I take issue with is how anything that doesn't *fit* the mold gets systematically ripped to teeny bits and reshaped as something other than it was. This is especially irritating when enormous attempts are made to discredit PEOPLE. In fact I bailed the tinhat realm shortly after Fiona Apple got a blatantly misogynist slapdown following Torn. "Like OMG that whore/druggie/tramp tried to molest poor innocent Elijah who was just trying to give her a ride home!" Yeah okay. Fiona is hot as hell. Wish I had gotten to give her a ride home, I would have even let her drive ;) Lately, I've been busy in other places (some amazing blogs out there by Iraqi teens talking about what the hell is actually going on there) but I popped over to DL last night and saw a slam at you for being fangirl. Shit starting already and of course that DL poster wasn't a fangirl too. Perhaps the Pope himself popped over to DL to proclaim you a heretic. Yeah. Okay.

The majority of tinhats and wankers for that matter are completely harmless. Most will simply wave, watch, or move right along. However, a few will try to discredit you and come up with reasons why it is that they (who don't KNOW any of these people) are far more aligned with the "TRUTH" than you could ever be. Oh, and they will peruse your LJ madly in order to collect this info and glean any tidbits of Elijah's whereabouts that they can. If it "fits" you'll be deified. If not, vilified.

Now, you seem to know exactly WHO you are, appear quite comfortable in your own skin and can easily say "to hell with it" and ignore.

However, if I were you - I would simply friend's lock it. It just doesn't seem worth the hassle of doing otherwise. Besides, do you really want to share anything that might hint of Elijah's whereabouts or dealings with people who are too interested in that kind of info? I wouldn't.

That's my 2 cents, it's certainly not gonna be popular (oh damn I don't get to be prom queen AGAIN ;) Heed or not as you will, I wish you well whatever your decision. Please keep up the good fight over at DNC.

And Sabine? Nick Bantock? Yes? Adore. Absolutely adore.

Peace~

(all flames can be directed to Nat_for_nothin@hotmail.com as am too lazy/busy to regularly check LJs.No need to mess up Sabine's pretty pages - DON'T MAKE GRIFFIN MAD NOW! ;)

*curtseys* Yes, Eso told me you were safe and user-friendly. Hello! Welcome! Why don't you have an LJ? Why can't you be prom queen? What if I gave you an orchid corsage? So many questions! Nick Bantock! Mmmm.

What's DL? Is the Pope a fangirl? What's wrong with being a fangirl? Some of my best friends are fangirls! giggling Do these DL people want to harm me or my family?

And, yes. I am mostly quite comfortable in my skin, or, rather, as long as no one is going to physically harm me I am not particularly fussed about gossip or slander or whatever. Basically what happened was, I got an e-mail or two saying, "welcome to LOTRips, glad to see your photos, just want to warn you, there are some freaks around these parts." So I figured I'd do a survey and see just how dangerous these freaks really are. If we're just talkin' LJ fangirls and squee-ers and slash writers, I'm a freak too, so, I'm not particularly fearful.

Attention world! Elijah was last seen this morning in Marina Del Rey! Release the hounds! *g*

This was a very reasonable set of 2 cents. Thank you. And hi! *waves*

Well no one has answered this yet so I'll hop in with the answer. DL is Datalounge. Datalounge is a gay gossip site with a popular forum. There is a thread there on a Ted Casablanca blind item that suggests that Viggo and Orlando are fooling around. I'm pretty sure that's the one NaT is referencing. Here's a link to the gossip forum:

http://dl.digitopia.net/cgi-bin/iowa/english/forum/threaded/trolls/newbies/gossip/all/page-1.html

And to the home page:

http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/english/home/index.html

And to the Viggorli thread:

http://dl.digitopia.net/cgi-bin/iowa/english/forum/threaded/trolls/newbies/gossip/all/page-11/thread/489787/page-1.html

Hope that helps. La

Actually, the Pope *might* be a closet fangirl. It's something I've not pondered much :) Fangirls are cool, DL definitely doesn't want to harm you or your family - right now they are very concerned however about Mac and Cheese recipes.

Don't have an LJ and don't watch tv. I think I am allergic to it all. Besides, I would bore people to death and then when they start passing out kool-aid cups I would get blamed for it.

Would definitely be your prom queen - gardenias please. But only if we could play with the Golden Mean all night.

"Attention world! Elijah was last seen this morning in Marina Del Rey! Release the hounds! *g*"

LOL, Dude I am still thanking the God of no religious affiliation that he didn't move next door to me. Am typing this from my laptop in the backyard and laughing my ass off.

The alternative would have been...well...
Elijah: "Got an extra cig"
Me: "Sure"
Elijah: "What are you reading?"
Me: "NOT DATALOUNGE"
Elijah: "Uhuh, Why are you sitting on the laptop?"
Me: "My ass is cold"

On a more important topic -- What are we going to do to save the US and the world for the next 4 years??

Take care!

NaT

PS...watch out for La, if you sleep with her she'll steal your socks. Or rather your left sock. I've not a clue as to why.

It's a cult thing. The members stuff the left sock and mount it. Er... on the wall of course. No where else. Um nope not at er... well never mind.

Even after death, we're still going to be laughing at this. I've been bursting out in uncontrollable giggles all day.

::waves to Sab::

Hi, we don't know each other, but have mutual friends from XF. Eso is an excellent guide to navigating the waters of LOTRIPS and Tinhat fandom -- stick with her!

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yos yos, I am quite familiar with your name and we have all sorts of mutual friends. *waves back*

In between my laughing fits I'm mostly enjoying all the new people I've met, who are very friendly so far. And Eso is, indeed, a handy sherpa.

Handy sherpa!

[identity profile] k2daisy.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
*also waves hello*

Like snacky, I don't know you, although we have lots of mutual friends, 'specially up 'round Chicago way.

Also like Snacky, I am still laughing about this two days later. MY FANDOMS HAVE CROSSED OVER! Thank you so much for that.

Have fun letting Eso guide you around! *g*

[identity profile] txvoodoo.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
You are satan.

*waves hi as well*

Friend of Eso, here. Fangirl, oh yes. But dammit, I wanna pick your POLITICAL brain! You need to tell me how I can do something of fvalue and action down here in Texas, or at least point me to someone down here ;)

I am not the least bit tinny. I don't care who sleeps with whom, as long as everyone's getting what they want, me included. But yes, fangirl. (Well, aging fangirl - though I swear that fangirling, fic reading and writing, and squeeing keeps one young)

I also really like that you write DS9 - aka The Best Trek Ever. It shows you have good taste.

And the kitty is adorable, but I'll counter it with a puppy. Because there is NOTHING in this world that can't be made at least bearable with a dachshund puppy:

Anyway, we share some interests and LJ friends, too.

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
That is a FANTASTIC PUPPY.

You should first investigate moveon.org and see what they're doing in your area. Then track down Democratic local candidates in your area and call their offices and see if they need volunteers. Write letters to your congresspeople and media outlets about issues of current legislation -- that is to say, don't worry about saving the whales this month, but if you want to weigh in on, say, Condoleeza Rice replacing Colin Powell, that's a good thing to voice an opinion about. This is also an important year to help pro-choice organizations gear up for the coming supreme court fight -- talk to Planned Parenthood and NARAL and see if they need workers or volunteers too. Um. Then report back to me. *g*

Get good news at www.truthout.org among other places, too.

Nice Puppy!!

Awwwwww....

Mkay, these sites might not all be er....*useful* but they are good places to vent and chill :)

http://www.evilgopbastards.com/
http://blackboxvoting.org/
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/
http://www.sorryeverybody.com/

and am hesitant about Moveon. Hung with them, worked a bit and sent cash yet they really pushed Moore's film and in retrospect I think his over the top F 9/11 did little to garner votes and some damage in pushing people away. I think it was impressive of him to try get the info out there - he didn't need to turn it into satire. It should have stood on its own, without his constant grandstanding to detract from the horror of the facts.

My 2 cents anyway.

Support NARAL, save our bodies from Bush playing God.
