yo soy sab! si, yo soy!

Someone TOOK my identity! Someone TOOK it to VEGAS and withdrew MONEY! *MY* money!

Someone was in Vegas THIS WEEK accessing my bank account and using my ID. DUDE.

So, I stopped the thingy with the bank and they cancelled my thingy, and I went to the police and I have to fill out an affidavit and get it notarized and once again I am trapped in an insane feedback loop as the police can't file a claim without a photo ID, and, as those of you playing the home game know, I don't HAVE my ID because all I had to my name was the expired NY driver's license that was STOLEN, and in order to get a CA driver's license I have to go to COURT and pay all these THINGS and get a state-issued birth certificate and a passport and whatnot --

So as the quest for a driver's license enters its SECOND YEAR, the process becomes more desperate as somewhere out there someone has spent FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS of MY MONEY in Vegas (and would have taken much more had I not been so deeply broke -- apparently they tried subsequent times to withdraw increments of $400 only to be refused at the ATM...and charge me overdraft fees) and I don't even have a credit card with which to use to order the eight dollar credit report over the phone.

This message was brought to you with help from [livejournal.com profile] somedaybitch who reminded me, among other things, about the state-issued non-driver's photo ID that the DMV can ostensibly provide, [livejournal.com profile] sorlklewis who helped with, among other things, tacos and an offer to use her card to order the goddamned credit reports and birth certificats, and [livejournal.com profile] wearemany who is many, and who will represent for me at Bridge School while I sit here crying in my beer and filling out police reports.

That fuckin' SUCKS!!! may whoever stole your id and money get a raging case of herpes that makes them die itching! grrrrrrrrr...

so, wait, what's the deal with your birth certificate? you can't get one??

I got a hospital birth certif, but the DMV didn't like it last time I brought it in, and told me I needed a, wossname, state-issued birth certif. Which I put off, because before I can get a driver's license I have to get past all these court appearances and fines anyhow, so I figured the birth certificate wasn't emergent. Except that Teri reminded me I can get a state non-driver's ID CARD from the DMV, which should suffice in proving my identity so I can fill out these police reports.

Of course, in order to get the state-issued birth certificate I have to call New York (and presumably somehow prove my identity to the New York people) and pay $15 over the phone (which has become more difficult considering all my CARDS are CANCELLED, enter Bronwyn the hero) and have them send me a wossname iffen they don't need me to jump through more hoops to prove my identity to THEM --

And then I take the birth certif to the DMV and they give me a non-driver's ID, and THEN I go to the police and do the thingy.

Meanwhile, I continue to go to court to pay the fines and wossname to get the DRIVER'S license I still don't have.

Love,
Sab

i can't figure out why LAPD is being, well, so LAPDish. wtf does notarizing do? prove you can find one? i mean, you have to sign the police report that has a handy "don't be fucking lying to us" disclaimer, which, if violated, nicely translates into a felony, so the notarizing? much with the useless. and while i get the need to make sure that you are in fact you, a picture id doesn't necessarily prove that since you a) have your ssn, b) can get bank docs from the bank which you couldn't get were you not, you know, you...it just seems like they are going out of their way to further victimize victims. my local homeboys may suck, but they generally avoid treating legit victims like suspects.

They clearly get kickbacks from the notary public industry. Every time an identity is stolen a notary gets her wings. *g*

*sigh*

Though it really IS mysterious, because clearly whatever I have on me at the moment has to be sufficient to GET my birth certif, so what does HAVING it prove?

A: That I can send fifteen dollars to the City of New York. Enjoy, Michael Bloomberg.

But YOU are such a champion, and I will call you tomorrow if there's crises?

call me even if there isn't. as many times as you'd like.

sab - have you thought about having your mom order you a birth certificate from NYC via internet? since her name is also on the birth certificate, she can order it as well and use her credit card to do it. here's the info: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vrbappl-1.shtml

Holy cats that's good stuff. I will call my mom tomorrow -- there is one problem solved!

THANK YOU!
