oh, oh. this is the first story i've had a chance to read for ages and it feels a bit like i was wandering around in the desert and suddenly stumbled on an ice cold beer presented in glass on a coaster in the middle of nowhere. (um. it makes sense in my head! and it's too early in the morning to be thinking about beer.) i've been reading you since your SN writing days and i was expecting it to be good but this is really, really good.
this is so well put together. the multiple voices are perfect -- i like how sharp and clear and... wanting they are; rodney is rodney is rodney and every problem he comes across, he goes at it with the same crazy eyed, absorbed determination and how john doesn't want things that come easily, how things that do feel like cheating and untrue for him and how rodney isn't easy but is a puzzle that he wants to solve. and it means more that john does because he didn't really value the things that came so easily until rodney shows him what comes next.
i love the non-lineared structure and how you sneaked zelenka/weir in there and most of all, i love Atlantis and you pulled off the sentience because the anthropomorphological route doesn't work for me (usually) but mmm. now i'm rambling and it's time for brunch!
