It was especially odd because the material was so...classic. I mean, I feel that RTD genuinely appreciates the form of homosocialism/homoeroticism that we call slashiness and has no problem featuring that kind of material(see: Last of the Time Lords), so it's all the more painful that for whatever reason the actors/director couldn't pull it off.
