learning about stuff

Hey, anyone out there feel like teaching me how to screencap DVDs? I just got an assload of pirated software that I *believe* will allow me the luxury of said, but it's all a jumble over here. Tips/tricks/software recommendations graciously accepted, thank you.

Me, I feel a Jeremiah mood theme coming on.

Please tell me what you are trying to do. Ripping the MPG 2 out into an editing program is better than screen cap. There are a lot of tools on the internet that will decrypt a DVD. And there are a lot of ways to get a good Movie Editing Program...such as your friendly LJ friends (which are at least 95% Compatible! Giggles). Anyway, what's up?

Lemme poke around a little, since I'm not sure exactly what it is I need just yet. Stand by. *g*

Okay, so when I try to take a picture using the 5clicks grabber below, I can get a good picture of the FRAME of Windows Media Player but not the actual image inside the screen.

When I use WinDVD, the "snap picture" command, nothing happens. When I use 5clicks on WinDVD, same deal, I get the frame and a blank screen.

Help!

You know I never received this message since you replied to yourself, right?

It's easier to edit in AVI, then render back to MPG2, I think.... Anyone? Anyone?

This is where Premiere 6.5 or 7.0 (if it's out) makes everything so much easier....

DVD Screen caps

If you're trying to find a screen capture program for creating icons, I found a great utility last week when I was trying to figure out how to send stills of our show to the web guys. It's cool, just click and drag to size, and anything on your screen will be captured as a jpg.

This was especially useful when [livejournal.com profile] sidrat wanted to make some Farscape wallpapers. It worked just great for that.

If your software is Intervideo WinDVD, then it comes with a capture feature.

It IS, but yet, when I click the "snap picture" button nothing happens. And when I use the 5clicks drag print-screen thing, I get the skin/frame of the DVD player but the image screen itself is just a black blank. Help?

Let me think about this - I'm not at home.

OK. My version is 5, and in the upper right corner of the player frame are three symbols, one of which is a camera. While the DVD is playing, I click the camera symbol, then a panel out to the right of the frame displays the shot.
There is a section below the captures that allows you to save as bmp or jpg files, one at a time or all at once.
If you slow the player speed, you can get multiple shots so you can choose the best one.

I am not familiar with '5clicks', but before I had IVWD5 I also failed trying to use print-screen drag.

Lemme investigate that, hang on.

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2004-02-24 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you pause the DVD before capturing, or capture while it's playing?

Ah, home now, so I can look at the player.

Usually I'm capturing for animated gifs, so I do so while it's playing, but in .5 time instead of real time. If it's a specific image, then I'll pause.

Is any of this helping?

YEs! It works, it works. It turns out I had the version of WinDVD for Windows 2000, while I am running XP over here, so I had to download the update and anyway, things are glorious now and I'm forging ahead with my Jeremiah all-Markus all-the-time mood icons and I'm just thrilled to bits.

THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!

Excellent!

When Jeremiah first came on, I watched the first few episodes, but somehow it just didn't catch my interest. I quite like your DS9 mood set, although the first time I saw a Breen I mistook it for Boba Fett.
