what if they threw a fandom and nobody came?

For those who have never seen "thirtysomething," are curious about "thirtysomething," or simply like polls, a poll:

Apparently there are very large and complex legal problems with the music used. They're supposed to be working on it.

That's weird -- I mean, I've had the soundtrack for ages. (And if there's ONE piece of music that just kinda sums up the late 80s/early 90s for me it's their theme song -- it's right up there with Northern Exposure for me. So many associations!)

Rights were only granted for the show on tv, and the occasional soundtrack. Those rights have to be renegotiated for dvd. The producers of Crossing Jordan are currently working through that very issue, they're hoping to release s1 sometime this year.

Some dvds are released with different music than the original broadcast. Northern Exposure and Scrubs are just two that have had that problem. Apparently some shows only have the rights to use certain songs in the original broadcast, so the music is different even when the show is repeated on tv.

It's apparently quite a complex area.

Ahhhhh. Man, yeah, it is complex. I hope they can do it -- it was a terrific series (even if at times I really just wanted to smack the snot out of Michael and Hope -- they got a bit whiny at times). Oh man, I just got a flash of that time Ellyn got an ulcer. ::blink:: And whatever happened to the actress who played Melissa. I really liked her.

This article (http://online.wsj.com/article/hollywood_report.html) has a rundown on where all the actors are now.

Maybe they need to relicense every piece of music that appears in the series? Don't you even need permission if someone just listens to something on the radio in a tv series? That could be a lot of music rights to clear. I guess their own title music might not be what causes trouble.
