if I had no home I'd build one in the sand

I went to the doctor today and she said, "no, you can't have the smallpox vaccine, and no, you can't have the anthrax antibiotic. No," she said, "the CDC issued a memo to all hospitals and medical facilities after 9-11 saying we can't prescribe those drugs, they're hoarding them in case of a biological attack. But," she said, "don't worry. biological warfare's very difficult. Making a virus into a weapon is very difficult."

so I'll worry about something else.

[more attacks "definite"]
[British dossier of evidence]

My sister gave me a tiny pin today. it says 9-11-01 with the twin towers as the "11" and beneath it, in small letters, it says "we're still standing."

meanwhile, they [found anthrax in Florida] but I'll worry about something else.

because if this is really the end, the last great war, then CJ will never grow up to be 50, and she's so beautiful when jo writes her. And if this is really the end, then Henson wouldn't be faxing me over a contract from Business Affairs to finish this project "by Thanksgiving." but I'll worry about something else.

was this before? when the [coalition expressed doubts]? should I worry about that? or should I worry about something else, like how Stephanie's holding up uptown, or if my sister's having fun at the party tonight, or how DV is doing with his panic attacks in LA or how SKL is.

Dateline, October 4, 2001. I nearly wrote 1996. I wish it were.

Dateline, October 4, 2001. we're still standing. and the rest, because that's the way it is, I'll keep you posted.

darmok and jalad at the ocean. you see? these words are so precious, this speaking we do with our mouths. but maybe these other words, the speaking we do without mouths, are equally important.

not worrying. LE

I know one thing

NPR this morning said the anthrax in Florida isn't terrorism or biological weaponing (is that a word?). So that's one thing.

I know you know this but sometimes we all need reminding: if it gets that bad, you come here. I'm as far away from potential attack sites as one can get on this continent while still being in a major city. Look at a map. You stay for now, do the things you need to do and be with all the people who love you, but if it gets that bad, you come here.

you were right. i'm breathing. and i'm scared adn i'm not going home and that's the way it should be. uptown is much nicer than downtown. and we're talking, and that makes me so very happy inside. the man probably got anthrax from a cow. i never liked cows anyway.

Oh that is *so* fabulous. I'm so glad you said it. I'm so glad I remembered what it means.

I can't help you with anthrax or disaster or anything like that, dear, but I do think you're really quite cool. And that's something.
