I'm hoping from overseas as well. No, I don't expect Obama to be a miracle worker who will undo all the damage in one stroke. But if he gets to be president, I think he will try to undo it, step by step, and he'll have a good start because the fact the US can elect a black senator with a cosmopolitan background, who actually has lived abroad as a child and knows the difference between Sunnites and Shi'ites, will be such a powerful statement about Americans that it will disarm at least some of the hostility.
