Okay, here's the quick scoop on Zyprexa. Technically, it's an anti-psychotic, but it's being used for much more than that recently, and the company that makes it is getting more indications passed by the FDA. Specifically, it's really good for people who have insomnia due to (even in part) anxiety. It kicks mucho ass at anxiety, while not causing dependence like Ambien and Sonata do. The only side effect that may be a concern is weight gain, but in your case, I don't think that's much of an issue. Also, there is some thought that by relieving anxiety, appetite comes back. Zyprexa also works in people who have failed antidepressants, so I was thinking of mentioning it to Robbie, but she seems to be sleeping again, so I not sure if she'd still need it. As for Sonata -- it falls pretty much into the same category as Ambien. Same family (benzodiazepine) which includes also Valium and Xanax. And, btw, both Ambien and Sonata, according to their package instructions, should not be prescribed for more than 14 days in a row. Not that most doctors adhere to that, unfortunately.
