For [livejournal.com profile] lenadances and [livejournal.com profile] kimonthejourney -- what do you think? Do we accept the matching funds and stick with the $45m cap, or can Dean's supporters raise more independently? I'm nervous, and therefore willing to do whatever you girls tell me is best. *g*

I'm nervous too, but I just can't picture things going well if we accept the cap. Bush's warchest will blow us out of the water.

Can we raise more than the $19 million we'd get in matching funds on our own? I really, really hope so. If we can't raise that much, I don't think we'll be able to hold our own against Bush anyway...

So I guess my answer is going to have to be to opt out of the matching fund... although it's a scary proposition, I feel like this is just one more milestone on an already amazing path that Dean is taking to the White House.

I'm interested in hearing from others, though... I'm kind of in a vaccuum here offline, though I'm going to Meetup again tonight.

What do you think?

My thinking exactly. Isn't that scary?

Where's the Meetup tonight, btw?

They're all over the place; three or four are within a few minutes driving distance of my workplace... http://dean2004.meetup.com/

Yeah, my question was which one were you attending? You *are* in LA, no? I went to the last one at the Knitting Factory -- might be interesting to try the LBGT one in WeHo at some point. Sadly, tonight's out.

Represent for me, willya?

reject the cap. we can't go head to head no matter what, but getting as close as possible is important. and if dean wins the nomination, he's going to get a lot of new donors.

it's a risk, but one worth taking.

I'm scared shitless about saying this, but... reject the cap. Bush is on the record as saying he'll be spending at least $130 million between the primaries and the conventions, while our guy would be stuck all the way until the convention with that $45 cap. When I heard that number, I damn near cried. Fucker. It's so so hard to beat the rich.

Jesus, but this will put responsibility on us all. Ack ack ack.

Well. I've rejected the cap. Largely because of the point made here that if we can't drum enough support to raise money for Dean, it's unlikely we'll be able to drum enough support to win the election. So. Good litmus test, if frightening.

Thanks for all the help, kids!
