got a cat named Easter
Sep. 10th, 2003 09:26 pmSo I wanted to go to the free clinic, either the one on Sunset or the one on Beverly, but the one on Sunset only takes appointments M/W/F between 10-12. Which is not a lot of hours. I can't blame them, they're a good public service, they're free, and I don't have insurance, but it didn't help yesterday at 11 am when I was miserably illin', and it didn't help today at 2 pm when I hurt too much to move. And then the one on Beverly was all booked, though I'll tell ya I entertained the thought of making a dentist appointment and then saying, "hey, while you're in my mouth..."
Because it turns out I have strep. Which they told me at the not-free clinic where I ended up getting a throat culture, a CBC, a full exam, and then a shot in the posterior and a bottle of Amoxycillin to go. $180 dollars later, I have strep. What am I, five?
So MW came over and brought me a Robek's juice and we watched Dr. Zhivago and he mopped my poor sweaty brow. It seems I had strep last week without realizing it, and then it went away, and now it's back with a vengeance and it hurts to move or swallow or think.
On the other hand, last night, while tossing and turning in my cold sweatiness and sore throatiness, I did write the first three paragraphs on my Riding Shotgun thingie, AKA Clark And Lex Go To Utah. I'm not sure why I picked Utah. I blame the strep. But right now I'm working on which of Clark and Lex is the better driver, and I think Clark might be winning. Though having Lex bad at anything seems counter-intuitive. Still, Clark seems frustrated at Lex's casual-yet-white-knuckled manner of whipping around hairpin turns in the dark, and I think Lex doesn't want to admit he'd rather Clark drive so he could sleep and not stress.
So I'll sleep if I can or else I'll poke at Lex and see if he can manage to fuck up enough to get Clark to drive, or if they're both tired, I think perhaps a nice motel is in order. It's up to them.
I still like The Lateral Thinking Puzzles Forum, and you would too. Also, Everwood premiere next week, hooray!
Everything hurts, mostly my throat, eating tea with jam, perhaps some more soup?
Also, this book I'm reading, Maureen McHugh's Mission Child, is awfully good. Like what Clan of the Cave Bear would have been if Clan of the Cave Bear were set on another planet far in the future. And good.
