sab: (markus que?)
Jeremiah season premiere spoilers here. I'm not even going to bother with an lj-cut, for the following reasons three (3):

1. The only person on my Friends list (that I know of) who watches Jeremiah is [livejournal.com profile] kerqui, who's already posted spoilers. [livejournal.com profile] gem225 and [livejournal.com profile] prillalar can only benefit from as much Jeremiah bludgeoning as possible, see reason two (2).
2. References to Jeremiah should be made as public as possible, in an effort to increase the members of my Friends list (and the WORLD!) watching said show.
3. It wasn't that good an episode after all.

Valhalla Sector was far more ominous as an abstract concept, and all this pseudo-governmental twittering only detracts from what was good about the show (MARKUS), namely (Markus) exploring this Mad Mad Mad Max post-apocalyptic world of kids.

The new girl, Ms. I Collect Shiny Things Love Interest? Can go the way of Dr. Helen Bryce if I have anything to say about it.

Markus did indeed have wiggly little bare feet in his electric-floored torture room. That alone was worth the price of admission, plus the bit where he's lying on his chest in his cell talking matters of the heart.

I take it back. Meaghan was redeeming, and her outburst at Lee regarding Markus (if you don't tell me what's happened to the man I love I'll bust out of here and infect everyone!) was inspired. Plus I like Meaghan a whole lot. I also like Lee, but he needs to stop talking like he swallowed the Norton Anthology of Poncy Villians, especially since we're talking about a kid who grew up surrounded by pre-teens, never went to school, and rose to power in a world where it was a wonder he ever learned to read at all.

Kurdy, who never did much for me before, was still among the more interesting parts of this episode, for his interaction with Lee, his meeting with Meaghan (I thought he'd met Meaghan before? Has Jeremiah?), and his first encounter with Sam Gamgee, I mean, God, I mean, Mr. Smith. Sean Astin looks to be a good new member of the crew. I'm liking the guys on the ground so much more than any of that crap going on at Valhalla Sector.

Though it's pretty funny Jeremiah's dad hasn't aged a day in fifteen years, you know, except for the baby powder they sprinkled on his sideburns.

Libby Liberty the sparkling love interest is my fannish enemy for the upcoming season. Next to her, Erin's my hero. Jeremiah/Erin/Markus for everybody, and Liberty can have her way with Jeremiah's dad.

Looking forward...

If our boys (and girl) get out of Valhalla Sector pretty quick, we could be back on the ground doing good things. I miss the days of local thugs and Theo, though, and I wonder if we'll get that back now that VS has made itself known. I wonder what happened to the rest of the kids at the St. Louis meeting.

It seems we'll make Samwise Kurdy's partner, and Jeremiah will be paired with Sparkleby, but, as always, it's the Markus/Erin/Lee/Meaghan business at Thunder Mountain that drives the show, so the sooner we get back to that, the better.

You'd think -- I mean, I haven't met a single fan who doesn't like Markus best. Not a single person who prefers Jeremiah's plotlines, or Kurdy's, to Markus's. And JMS must know this, right? Makes you wonder why Mr. and Mrs. NewCastMember got title billing and Peter Stebbings is still stuck as an episodic guest star. Both he and Ingrid Kavelaars are more crucial parts of the show. Feh. Anyhow.

Don't let this dissuade you. It was a pretty dull 44 minutes of menacing old guys, but it can't stay like that for long. And if you're one of those people out there still waiting to watch the first season, do it. Mmmm, Markus. MMMMM.
