Shows that shouldn't'a died. Some fan favorites and then some stuff no one watched but me, for you to learn about and love and mourn!

Grand: Like Northern Exposure, but with pianos! Didn't make it a full half season.
Mercy Point: Space hospital! Lasted exactly three episodes.
It's Like, You Know...: West-coast Seinfeld! Back when ABC was yellow! Eked out a half season.
LA Doctors: Michael Steadman running to save an exploding schoolbus! Who could ask for anything more? This one survived a whole SEASON, go figure.
The Tick: Live-action! With Patrick Warburton and Nestor Carbonell and so many other good people! One whole half season.
Freaks & Geeks
Sports Night
Firefly
Jeremiah (though the last nail's not in the coffin yet)

Now is when you tell me that you also loved Grand or Mercy Point, and we hold each other by the shoulders and remember the good times?

I vaguely remember "Grand." But I didn't even remember that Bonnie Hunt was in it! Pamela Reed, I knew. And little Sara Rue! Maybe I'll see if the Museum of TV & Radio has an ep or two for me to watch. And yes, "It's Like, You Know" roxored. And also yes, "Freaks & Geeks!" Must buy that one. "Sports Night," I do own, at least.

Oh, the Museum, what a great idea! I need to hustle over there and see all these. I miss Mercy Point, sigh.

I LOVED Grand! I still get the theme song stuck in my head: "We're all different drummers playing in the same big band/and if you want to play it, play it -- play it grand..."

And of course Firefly (and Farscape), and Sports Night, and Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared and The Tick (one of the smartest, definitely the queerest show ever on network TV) and ... God yes. LA Doctors was one of the best shows I'd ever seen. The finale -- the one on the bridge? Made me cry for the entire last half hour. So Good!

The Tick was seriously one of the best sitcoms of all time. Sigh. And Freaks and Geeks and don't forget Undeclared. I miss all Judd Apatow's poor doomed shows.

"It's Like You Know" was awesome. What a great cast. So nice to see them turning up other places. Well, except for poor Jennifer Grey. But it was still a great concept. My favorite ep was the one where JG antagonizes all the Harvard writers.

(Speaking of ... Nestor Carbonell? Really? I only vaguely follow his career because I remember him from college productions. Good to know he has an actual following.)

My favorite "no one ever saw this show but me" was "Day by Day", about a day care center. pre-Seinfeld Julia Louis-Dreyfus, pre-Melrose Courtney Thorne-Smith and a bunch of other good people.

I remember Day by Day. Christopher Daniel Barnes, post-Starman and pre-Greg Brady, yum.

Alas, the only one I know of these is Firefly. However, the first show that comes to mind not on your list is American Gothic. Did you ever watch that?

Oh, the Tick. Here's to the Tick. Though in truth my loyalty was always to the animated version, I have to say that "Batmanuel" was fucking inspired.

But I know better to get emotionally invested in a smart new show on Fox. The rule of Fox: If you survive to a second season, you could last forever, but the axe is likely to fall well before that.

You would think 'space hospital' would have survived longer than that.

Okay, never saw Mercy Point, but SPACE HOSPITAL? Man, I need to get me a piece of that. Where can I acquire this thing?

I will trade you Mercy Point for my tape of the LA Confidential pilot starring Kiefer. I also have a few Dead Like Me episodes. Oh yes.
