Date: 2006-07-19 06:51 am (UTC)Tell me, have previous Doctors shared companions like that before? Do Neela or...Lianna? or Romana or Sarah Jane or that cute little robot dog ever go from one Doctor to another, or was that new with Rose?
Are all the previous doctors this doctor, or were there...entirely other Time Lords being the Doctor before the Time Lords were destroyed? Where I am with the fourth Doctor there's all these other Time Lords running around, perplexing me.

Date: 2006-07-19 09:24 am (UTC)So, in short: Time Lords: regenerate. All of them, not just the Doctor. (For example, we saw Romana, who is a Time Lady, in two incarnations.) Unless they're physically destroyed which presumably happened in the Time War. The main character of this show since forty years is the same individual, whom we saw getting new bodies in the course of that time. Oh, and he wasn't kidding about having been a Dad. In fact, he was a grandfather. One had a granddaughter, Susan, and if you want to get really twisted, she has more than one thing in common with Rose.
Companions going from one regeneration to the next: absolutely, that happened. When the Doctor met Sarah Jane, he was Three (Jon Pertwee), but she's mainly associated with Four (Tom Baker) because Three was starting his last year when he met her, whereas she spent several years as Four's companion. (Which is also why she immediately knew he must have regenerated once she had seen the TARDIS.) Just for the "awwww" factor, during their very first meeting, he introduced himself as John Smith to her, too, and they were both undercover, just as in "School Reunion".
Another companion who saw the Doctor through a regneration was Peri. Let me tell you, Rose had it easy. Peri was Five's companion and he sacrificed his life for her, and then when he regenerated into Six, something went wrong through the process, and the first thing he did was trying to strangle her. (He got more stable after.)
