notably missing from your anglophile post (which should be for SMRT TV, or Flow (http://jot.communication.utexas.edu/flow/)) is Bad Girls (exhibit A: my icon), now on its 8th season and still popular, which means they were doing lesbian drama five years before The L Word and doing it in ways that were far more compelling and complex and that appealed to the mainstream otherwise than with boobies. and now Sugar Rush, which is edgy and witty and well-edited in ways that South of Nowhere will never be (the teen lesbian's parents on SoN are swingers, and she caught them at a sex party -- can you imagine?!).
