Do you think it's dangerous to put my laptop in my checked suitcase? I always carry it on with me but this time I think it might be easier not to.

Absolutely carry it on. The chances of it being neither broken nor stolen if you check it are minute. (Also, did I give you my mobile number? I'll be in London from Wednesday afternoon through to Monday.)

I wouldn't. Checked luggage gets tossed a lot, and things sometimes get stolen. Anything valuable should be in a carryon.

I would NEVER do it.

I have a friend who works for the TSA and she tells us stories of things stolen from checked luggage.

I wouldn't, ever ever. I've heard way too many horror stories about shattered screens and completely screwed up hard drives.

Before I dropped my comp on the floor and broke it slightly, I used to have it in my checked-in suitcase all the time. I'd wrap it up in a couple of garments and boogie on.

I vote yes. They don't always, but they can toss the heck out of the checked baggage. If you wouldn't feel comfortable putting it in your bag then throwing your bag as hard as you can, I wouldn't check it.

That's pretty risky. You could probably cushion it fine so it wouldn't get broken, but suitcases get lost all the time, and so the risk of it getting stolen could be pretty high. (My luggage seems to get lost/sent on the wrong plane/routed through Dubai about every third time I fly, so I may be a little bitter)

why are you even considering this? the usual "insurance" the airlines give you for your lost baggage never exceeds a thousand. plus things are stolen out of bags ALL the time. and it's going to get thrown around . . . not just by people, but you know how it comes down the chute at the baggage claim . . . i mean, you could probably wrap it safely enough, but why risk it?

crazy girl. ;)

(speaking of, you have enough pills for the trip, yes? because that's what's always in my carry-on - pills, computer, glasses, mini-notebook. so. yeah. the end.)

I strongly recommend against checking it if you value it at all. Carry it on.

Supposedly you're not supposed to put anything in checked baggage that you can't afford to lose. Even if your luggage just got lost for a few days, what a nightmare. *shudders*
