Yesterday, with barely any warning, my car up and died in the middle of a left turn from Sunset onto Edgemont. I managed to nudge it to the curb, walked to my mechanic's, came back with the mechanic who pronounced the car dead at the scene. Considering it was a 1981 with over 200k miles on it, and considering it gave me a year (and this, particular, high gas price year) of good diesel/biodiesel mileage, and that the cost to fix it would be nearly three times as much as the value of the car, it's not like I didn't know this would happen someday.
But it was nice when I had a car.
