So, all seasons considered, what are your favorite SPN monster of the week eps? I do like their monsters and standalone eps, but I get tired and fall asleep when we're talking about Dean in hell or Sam doing whatever it is he was doing with his demon powers or anything with that little girl and the angels (and I like Castiel! Just not enough to watch him have plot. Or with Dean.).

Favorite MOTW? Ep titles or numbers are good so I can find them from the place. If there's a little bit of mytharc I need to know to understand the ep, tell it to me in 15 words or less?

I like this show. I do. But when I sat down to try and watch a season in a row I got so painfully bored with all the mytharc, and thus I turn to you, my tech supporters, for help. Help?

With the warning that I've only watched about a handful of episodes, I enjoyed "Home". Pretty much the only episodes I've watched have been the ones with John and/or Mary, though, so again, that's not necessarily saying much.

Benders, from season 1, Nightshifter from season 1, and Jus in Bello and Mystery Spot from season 3. You don't need any mytharc to get any of them, though there is some in JiB, it's more like trimmings. Oh, and Something Wicked in season 1 is great too.

I definitely prefer monsters of the week to the mytharc or brotherly bonding. I really liked a lot of the season one stuff. Nowdays it feels like even when they do have a motw, the monster storyline kind of gets shafted for family drama or whatever.

I have no idea about ep numbers or titles, though. And I've forgotten most of the episodes anyway... ^_^;; But off the top of my head, the one about the bugs, the one about Bloody Mary, the one with the haunted painting... Hmm. I know there were more than those three! *ponders*

If you share what seems to be a pretty widespread deep-seated fear of that Bloody Mary game that people always used to play at, like, elementary-school slumber parties? The first-season episode "Bloody Mary." I'm never scared by visual media, and SPN has never really scared me before or since. But the first time I saw that episode, late at night on my laptop, I remember lying in bed afterward and thinking, "Well. I should probably go into the bathroom and do the Bloody Mary thing now just to prove to myself I can. OH WAIT I ACTUALLY CANNOT MOVE."

I always thought the S1 MotW episodes were the best, especially since they were mostly pre-major mytharc. Because I gotta be honest, shows start losing me when they get too heavy on that stuff. That's probably part of the reason I've quietly stopped watching SPN since sometime in S3.

Okay, I enjoy 2.18 Hollywood Babylon, which is a funny/scary ep on the set of a horror movie.

I also like 3.11 Mystery Spot, which is angsty but gorgeous.

Oh, and 1.12 Faith has some good brotherly stuff.

And 1.04 Phantom Traveler has them in suits! And dealing with Dean's fear of flying. :)

Let's see...

"Something Wicked" (1.18) for the Weechesters (no myth-arc - just comparisons to when they were wee kiddies).

"Faith" (1.12) for the lovely Julie Benz and just a very bitter sweet tale.

"Bloodlust" (2.3) because vampires are cool and also Amber Benson.

"Playthings" (2.11) which is about a ghosts and it has a haunting (metaphorically) ending so I liked it a lot. There's a bit of myth-arc but I think it's self-explanatory.

"Bad Day at Black Rock" (3.3) because it's hilarious and Bella is hot.

"Ghostfacers" (3.13) which is the obligatory "sam and dean find themselves on reality tv" episode and I dig it a lot. Also, they swear like sailors!

Lastly, "Yellow Fever" (4.6) because he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger... (also, it cracks me up no end).

Have at it!
