Apr. 25th, 2003 08:21 amThe Friday Five
Before settling in for 17 1/2 hours of Xena: Warrior Princess.
1. What book are you reading now?
The script for Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul
2. Do you think you'll finish it? Why?
I'm about thirty pages from the end. I think I'll finish it this morning. Why? Because it's awesome. That's why.
3. What's the last book you quit reading partway through?
Stephen King's Dreamcatcher, probably simultaneously A House for Mr Biswas.
4. Why?
Because Dreamcatcher was too disgusting, even for me. And while I'd watch the (expectedly) horrible movie for Mr. Damian Lewis, he wasn't quite enough for me to make it through exploding alien ass worms in text-form. I'm not altogether convinced he's got enough sway for me to face ass worms even on screen. I wish I could see him in something else, something where he's not wearing a hat.
(oh and Mr Biswas I'll probably revisit.)
5. What's the last book you finished?
Minghella's English Patient and just before that, Homes' In a Country of Mothers. English Patient is marvelous. Homes didn't do it for me. Both of these facts are astonishing, as, if you'd offered me these books together and asked which I'd prefer, it'd've been a gimme. I loved Homes' other book so very much.
[On edit: I forgot to say the above survey was gacked from. I forgot who. Probably
jenavira. All the good stuff is from jenavira. The lifter pants are from jenavira. *g*]
In related news, I have learned/am learning how to read at home. Somehow recently I've forgotten that it's something I can do, because I so love to read while I eat and I never eat at home, so reading's been something relegated to diner tables and subway cars. Admittedly, I spend a lot of my free time in those two places, and admittedly, when I'm home I'm usually online, but this whole thing about reading a book in the house is just lovely. What it needs, though, are snacks. Sunflower seeds, maybe.
Xena starts at noon. I'd better either sleep or eat some sort of muffin.
