I broke my toe. It's all backwards and stumpy and purple and sideways and it hurts like hell. I kicked a cabinet yesterday, is what. Not on purpose.

Any toe-repairing advice graciously accepted, per usual.

Also. Because it's guilty, and squinty, but at the same time SO FUCKING HOT and plus, somehow these girls have the best icons ever: [livejournal.com profile] camp_toccoa.

Yeah. Sorry. I broke my TOE, dude.

Yikes!
Nothing much you can do but keep off it and have it in a splint. *shudders*

Erm. Like you icon.

Thanks. I can't remember where I found it, but it's a good one, ain't it?

Now, to get those kids at [livejournal.com profile] camp_toccoa to make me BoB icons...

Yep, those are wonderful icons. The texture is just right. I already looked for some BoB images to make my own but so far very limited seems to be avalable. Perhaps begging might help?

All I can say is, don't bother going to the doctor and asking if they would kindly amputate your broken toe as you really don't need all ten toes to walk anyway, because they won't do it.

I broke both my pinky toes, on separate occasions, by hitting them against doorframes. It hurt a lot, and neither of them healed quite right, making them very vulnerable to being hurt again. Since I, obviously, have never learned the lesson about being careful when walking through doors, I still want to find some quack plastic surgeon who will remove my whack-ass pinky toes for the right price.

I wish, man.

Sadly, it's my middle toe, so not very opportune for amputation and would leave a funky gap. On the other hand, it hurts so much I really don't care.

To everyone:

I have wrapped the toe in a little tube of cardboard and taped it straight, because it was already healing crooked. It's now sort of zigzagged and ridiculous looking. I took aspirin and I'm wearing good shoes.

Question: how long till this stops hurting? And is there enough Band of Brothers slash in the world to tide me over till then?

From: [identity profile] noelleleithe.livejournal.com
Which toe? I would tape it (or have someone else tape it) to the toe next to it. If there's a toe on both sides, you might switch the tape every so often to keep the injured toe from healing with a bend in it.

Okay, well, I would actually go to a doctor to have it taken care of, so do that if you're able. Even if it's the ER.

See below? Do I bend the toe to its neighbor toe if doing so causes more of a bend in the toe than simply leaving it in an individual toe-tube would?

From: [identity profile] noelleleithe.livejournal.com
I think the cardboard tube is good and would be better than bending the toe off to one side. It would probably heal that way, which would not be good.

My toes are all pressed together, so I don't have the same frame of reference to work from. *g*

Er, "heal that way" as in "heal pointing off in a strange direction, instead of healing in a straight position."

Fantastic. Also, it seems like the purple part is more the...stem, where the toe meets the foot, and less the toe proper. Either way, I'm voting yea on the cardboard tube and reaffixing it to said toe.

Thanks!

tape it to stablize it (tape it to the toe next to it if you can handle it). Take ibuprofen. Stay off it. Wear stable shoes. Don't bother with doctors; I've just pretty much given you all the advice they'll give you...I've broken every one of my toes over the years (note: figure skating? bad on feet) and that's all I've ever been told.

*hugs*

It's all about the tape. If it's your big toe, you need to go to the hospital and have it set. Because if that heals wrong, you are screwed for walking forever.

Other toes require taping for stabilization. I made the mistake of not doing this when I broke my pinky toe this summer. I helped kelly keil move instead, staying on my feet too long. My toe is now on sideways. It's a problem and catches on my shoes in a bad way.

Hm. This makes me think maybe I should go ahead and tape it to its neighbor toe. The problem is that my toes are so widely spaced that the act of leaning the toe over to meet its neighbor toe might bend the toe more than simply leaving it where it is in its little cardboard tube.

Any arguments for or against the above?

You should use a cotton ball between them anyway, or you'll get sores.

Buddy tape it. Splints are more or less useless on toes. Keep ice on it as much as you possibly can.

From: [identity profile] lenadances.livejournal.com
Agreed. I'm all about a large amount of cotton between toes when buddy-taping, because I have a thing about having my toes feel like they're too close together. So you can vary the amount of cotton.

Cotton is a VERY GOOD THING. Buddy-taping is, also. I like the large wad of cotton + buddy tape thing 'cause it causes more stability for the poor toes, and because cotton keeps your poor toe from being in actual contact with things that will hurt it, like shoes. Also, use paper tape-- it's a thing, they sell it at the drugstore in the sports-injury-type section, right along with wrist splints and ace bandages. Give it a good wrapping. And if you have the insurance, go to a doctor and point at your toe.

And for the record, toes give off an astonishing amount of pain for something so small and we should make a pact to stop doing these things. Your poor baby toe!

(Mine still hurts. It has stopped feeling fragile, though, and so I no longer go into my "Don't talk about my bones! I have no bones, shhh, don't let the bone-breaker gods hear you!" kind of paranoia.)

::hugs Em gently::

Put a cotton ball between them and then tape. Use something as a spacer to put the toe in the right position.

Poor toe. Poor Sab:( Staying off it is good. And Arnica gel, which will not cure it, but will ease the pain. As will good whiskey and good DVD's. Hope it starts to feel better soon.

I did the same thing recently, and yes, owwie. I didn't go to the doctor, but you might get good painkillers if you do; that would be the only reason to bother. It sounds like you're doing the right stuff. Good luck.

you can make a little padded toe tube!

name your price, no problem. just give me a little while to do it, i've got a quite a laundrylist of things to do, but i will get to it in the near future.

*nods happily*

oh and thank you so much, i'm glad you like the icons. i long for icons of grant, skinny, NIXON, and a few pairings, but i've run out of room and i don't have the heart to cut my icon love for tab or eugene.

I'd love a solo Nix, maybe drinking? And/or a Spears?

I'm also a Roe girl, but Nix will always be first in my book, and Spears, mmmm, Spears...

Which is to say, if you have any leftover medic-themed icons, I'd graciously accept, but don't go out of your way. Nix! Spears! THANK YOU!

Can I offer you anything in return?
