I nabbed this from [livejournal.com profile] jenavira and I would appreciate it if you all would respond. For we are all Friends, here. You can even tell me something I already know.

To wit:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your fic, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

ETA: my mood, because [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer asked so nicely, is now appropriately quixotic.

The sky's pink because the light's diffuse for the clouds. The yellow of the sun gets refracted pink because of the...stuff...in the atmosphere. Same as a sunset.

Now, why light refracts, why we see color, and why the sun is yellow to begin with -- I can't answer these questions and they make my head hurt.

I like all the other things you like. And I just sent my girl Sputnik to read your S&tC Miranda vignettes. So.

I am cofax. I believe in buying footwear as seldom as possible, and therefore it's okay to spend over $100 for a new pair of boots, right? Right?

I like spinach, by the way, and believe it is unjustly maligned. As is broccoli. Both of them are marvelous with cheese. Mmmm, cheese.

Machetes are also wonderful. Don't you agree?

Me, I love shoe shopping. But I tend to only have one pair of shoes in "active duty" at a time. I'll wear them for six months or a year, then swap out for a new pair, depending on the climate and season.

I'm all for expensive shoes, comfortable and solid and sexy and smell good. If you ever want to go shoe shopping, call me and I'll be there.

Ah, man, now I'm nostalgic for New England, any time of year. Mmm, lobster roll.

It's near where my mom grew up, so the family makes it out there about once a year, assuming we're all on the right coast, for lobster rolls, ice cream, and a drive along the Sound.

I buy too many books. I detest vinegar on or in anything except crisps. I like poetry but don't write it any more. I think my own judgment is deeply suspect. I'm afraid of meeting people because I'm not good at it.

My favourite kind of TV is the repeats of 80s and 90s political thrillers on UK Drama. I think the best TV show I've ever seen is "Edge of Darkness" (though this changes). I think you would love it.

Date: 2003-12-11 04:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com
I already love your show. And I've never seen it. Can I get it on NTSC? I'm a sucker for 70s political thrillers, myself, American style. I can only assume the 80s in Britain comes with the same bad hair, low-rider automobiles and smarmy spies? With smart, funny banter and love-hate relationships between powerful women and caddish men?

I trust your judgment, so there. But you do suck at meeting people, though it's no fault but your own. You're too cute and smart and witty to be so shy. Speaking of which, when are you coming back to LA?

I love vinegar. On anything. Even my pulse points, like a fine cologne.

I love the dusty-orange kind of smell that a certain kind of crumbly pure-sugar candy and some floor cleansers share. I can remember trying out the hair-twirling/chewing thing when I was seven and deciding I liked it, but now I've been doing it so long that the only way to make me stop is to cut off all my hair. I hate tags in my clothes (and the seams in my socks) with a fierce passion. I used to be able to sing D above high C but I somehow think it is now lost to me forever.

Will that do? ::g::

I used to chew my hair too, but it's been too short for about ten years now. I can still remember that great, sort of vaguely burnt taste. Mmm, hair.

I also hate tags, seams, sleeves that are the wrong length, socks that are the wrong length, turtlenecks that are too tight or anything irritating, itchy, or wrong.

I can't sing much of anything at all, however. That'll do. *g*

I have multiple degrees and I spend a large part of my day chauffeuring my children around. I hate ellipsis in writing, except in posts like this. I almost never do paperwork anymore, but I used to do a lot of it. I am in the middle of my mid-life crisis.

I also hate ellipsis, but I have this problem because Microsoft Word, when you end a sentence with an em dash, like so --, flips the quotation marks around. Which is to say.

"Aidan, don't open that--"

If that were in Word, the closing quotes would be flipped around as opening quotes.

And rather than actually *solve* the Word problem, I've found myself using ellipses where I'd normally use an em dash.

Foiled again! And I hate 'em.

I have only one plant, a lemon tree, which I got as a sapling (a gift from a friend who had grown it from a seed), but now it's almost as large as I am. It doesn't bloom yet though. Good question! How do you make new lemons, though, if not by the seeds from other lemons? And if they're (the "they" who does things like this, natch) going to the trouble of making the seeds of commercial lemons non-fertile, why not just engineer a seedless lemon?

I'll bet it makes lemons. It just might take a couple more years. What climate are you in? Do you live in a land where lemons are indigenous?
