I have two questions which are actually questions:

1. What's the benefit of having a syndicated LJ feed? Additionally, what's the benefit of *friending* an RSS feed rather than the actual journal itself?

2. Why would someone "hide friend of" list?

I know there are reasons for both these things but my all my useful brain space has been taken up with Band of Brothers boys and Firefly. Help a gal out, woncha?

I had more things I didn't know the answer to, but I've forgotten them. They'll come back to me and I'll ask them again. Probably.

1. RSS feeds are usually from blogs that are outside of Live Journal. People make them so they can read regular blogs on their Live Journal friends list instead of manually checking some other webpage every day.

2. Maybe they have a lot of weird people who friended them and don't want people to see them. Stalkers or exs or such. Maybe they are just private.

I friend a number of RSS feeds, but they're not LJ journals. It helps me out and tells me when, say, Wil Wheaton has posted a new entry.

I also hide my friend of list. The only reason is that my "friends" is currently at 246 and my "friend of" is only at 154. It makes me feel like an LJ stalker, and no one but me needs to know that I am an LJ stalker.

Er... or something.

Both of those answers (yours and [livejournal.com profile] unsated's) to the "friends of" list make sense. It does encourage the question of why they don't give "hide friends list" as an option as well.

(And there's nothing wrong with being an LJ stalker. *g*)

As for the RSS feed, I get Wil Wheaton's blog syndicated as well, but the thing is that Livejournal offers the option of syndicating your LJ or subscribing to a syndie LJ while on LJ itself and I wonder why. Is it a bandwidth issue?

Mysterious, mysterious.

And thank you!

I hide my friends-of list, and I would hide my friends list if I could. I still hope that as they revamp things in this part of livejournal, that this will become an option.

1: it makes it possible to read LJ posts in other, non-LJ forms. For instance, a newsreader like NetNewsWire, which I use to keep up with various blogs all at once, instead of having to go to each site. I suppose its mainly for people who don't have an LJ, or don't use it much, but want to keep up with a few LJs. As for friending, I don't see why you'd friend a feed of someone who *has* an LJ, but I do have a few non-LJ feeds friended--like Wil Wheaton and Niel Gaiman...

2: the not wanting to look like a stalker who has 100s of people friended but only a few on the 'friend of' list is probably the main reason, I'd guess. Or maybe they've got *tons* of people there, and it makes their profile look cluttered. Eh. Maybe it's a way to avoid some kind of weird status thing attached to how many people have added you. I hid mine for a little while when I first got an LJ 'cause I didn't have anyone who added me and I didn't want to feel like loser. *g* Now everyone knows I'm a loser, so I don't have to hide it anymore... ;)

For number two, I have my 'friends of' list hidden because I like my user info to look neat, and with that there, it's much longer and messy-looking and unorganized. But I doubt most people have my weird issues there.

2) Well, I hide my friend of list because I only list about a fourth of the people who list me and I don't want everyone to think I'm an incredible snob. (Even though I actually *am*, I guess. *g*)
