Much like eating all my oatmeal so my mom will say YAY SAB and so I can see the pair of bears at the bottom of the bowl, I'm unzipping the ninety-seven thousand folders of fonts I've downloaded, to get to the Markus wallpaper that lurks behind.

In totally unrelated news, Michael Rosenbaum has hair in [livejournal.com profile] mimesere and [livejournal.com profile] jennyo's totally brand-spanking-new as-yet-unveiled "Division 16": the Not-Actually On TV Series.

This most recent flu-strain of insomnia's so uncool, man. Last night's all-star display put me to sleep at roughly 5-ish in the a.m., and woke me at roughly 8ish with no hope of returning to sleep. NOT THRILLED.

In the continuing hit parade of astonishingly average Jeremiah fic, let me offer some recent installments:

Perceptions, by [livejournal.com profile] cyloran is actually well above average, and takes a Mister Smith-style snapshot of my Markus with all the art of a pinhole camera. Sort of a super-sized drabble, fully G rated and lovely.

I'm hyperventilating enjoying the presence of the Hobbit folk in the Jeremiah fandom, 'cause, hell, whatever gets you in the door, long as you're in the door, and Samwise Astin has a significant and vocal fanbase that I'd just as soon coopt for our own immoral purposes.

And then. Gotta point out A Fine Pair of Asses by Orithian and Rina, with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gem225 for directing me to it in the first place.

This story is, um.

Just because Sithkitten's extremely cool doesn't mean everyone out there is, so I'll reserve comment on this story aside from a general act of public service warning the populace about the interminable I'm sorry did I say that out loud? ass-comparison trope that winds its way through this story, in between uncamoflaged Erin-bashing ([livejournal.com profile] killabeez, [livejournal.com profile] elynross, once is once, twice is a coincidence, 90% of all Jeremiah fic points to fanon -- might be interesting to explore why Erin gets so royally abused) and, you know, some moderately hot J/M NC-17 slash.

In conclusion, being upwards of 100k, NC-17 and J/M slashy, set in Season 2, you know, gift horse :: mouth. So. There you go.

Am I the only person in fandom who prefers not reading at all/waiting for better stuff to come along to suffering through a bad story? Maybe so. Hmmm.

You know, under almost any other circumstances (read: in any other fandom) I think I'd agree with you. But I'm just so hungry and desperate for Jeremiah slash, you know, as The American President would say, in the absence of water I'll drink the sand.

If I held out hope for better fic coming down the pipeline I might be more patient, but here's a show that got cancelled (or something, even SHOWTIME's not sure what they're doing with this show anymore, AFAIK) midway through season two, with the remainder of S2 available only courtesy of fine Canadians with uploading ability -- a show that only aired on paid cable to begin with, and, yeah. So I suppose I'll try anything once, though I'll probably live to regret it.

Want to write me some Jeremiah? *eg*

Hey! If we get Fanfiction net to start a Jeremiah category under television we have a shot at increasing the fanbase. All fanfiction net wants to know is how many people with how many stories will upload. Author retains situational copyright. Standard disclaimers apply.

I was afraid that it wasn't going to be a good story, and it would seem that it wasn't. I'm sorry about that. I would have loved to have found you a good one. :-(

Not your fault. You'll just have to write me a good one someday......

ARGH. Sigh. Thanks for the warning, though. I was going to give it a try (and I may still skim it), but that would have just pissed me off. At least we know there are some of us that really like her -- Erin is terrific. Loyal, willing to give markus a kick in the seat of the pants when needed, unwilling to let him get away with shit. I wonder if the author has seen the last eps. Part of me thinks, no, she couldn't have, or she'd know Erin isn't a threat. The more cynical part of me thinks yeah, she has, and she's decided Markus doesn't like Erin, either, so she must be awful.

It's really sad it's so predictable. I hadn't looked around enough for fiction to even think about it, but I'm really not surprised. Strong woman, obviously cares for one of the guys, of course she's going to get bashed. Maybe there are other reasons, but it just happens so predictably that I wonder. Heroes and the girl. They just can't get a break.

I have bookmarked the other bit, though, thanks!

Actually, I'd guess they haven't, since this is set in the early part of S2 and
Jeremiah's living with Libby in Millhaven
-- Libby who, inexplicably, gets her share of bashing as well, being sort of lumped with Erin, file under "threat girl." Which, while there are plenty of reasons to take issue with Libby's character, strikes me as less of a fannish kind of hero-abuse and more of, simply, really lousy characterization.

Did you see my big post on valhalla_sector, anyway? Links there to all the Jeremiah fic I've found in the world. And I specifically recommend Building Nations by [livejournal.com profile] lelise, for good Markus and the opposite of Erin-bashing.

Heroes and the girl. They just can't get a break.
