1) Sally forth to Fanfiction.net. Gird thy loins. Plunge in.

2) Choose a book, movie, show, etc. you have never heard of (or, in a pinch, at least one you know nothing about aside from the name) that has at least ten fics listed.

3) Read only the first page of story summaries.

4) Using what you have learned from these summaries, describe what this book/movie/whatever is about. Be as silly as you like, but ONLY use whatever you just learned...

This is a funny meme. I think I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] schuyler, but don't quote me on that. Me, I looked at The Man from UNCLE because I don't know a thing about that show.

UNCLE, it seems, is a place, an organization probably, and there are definitely people named Napoleon and Illya who seem to be...in the snow? It's likely there's some sort of Polar headquarters, in Russia, maybe, probably Siberia, where Napoleon and Illya get imbued with all sorts of angst. There's also someone named Solo who could very well be related to Napoleon, but who doesn't sound Russian and doesn't seem to get to have any sex. Napoleon and Illya are ALWAYS in a cave, for some reason, and then they go on missions that involve royalty and probably Tsars.

I'm plagued with inexplicable waves of guilt, the sort that start in your stomach and make their way to the tips of your fingers and toes. I say "inexplicable" because they idle at a slightly higher level than my usual low-hanging layer of perpetual guilt, but they aren't tied to any particular wrongdoings on my part that I can recall. I've been firing a lot of people, though, my first week as a supervisor, and it doesn't exactly make me a hug waiting to happen.

It's a tough month at work; the Democratic party's out of steam, liberal non-profits are flat out of money, and donors are too beaten to care and too defeatist to make the financial sacrifice in this climate. I can't say I blame them. Social Security's gonna drop again next month, and these folks aren't living high on the hog as it stands, between health care costs and school tuitions and the drop of the dollar with a side dish of skyhigh gasoline prices. "We'll never get it through this Congress," they say. Why should we fight to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or the right to an abortion, or the separation of Church and State? "We're fucked," they say.

My gingerbread medic placed 5th in the all-star tournament this past weekend. Between that and the night at the Cinema Room, my dance card's been full of adventure and bliss, and mostly it's just been a string of good, solid fun with some really marvelous, loving friends. It's the goddamned Christmas spirit. Hi, [livejournal.com profile] maudelynn.

Heidi and I went to the premiere of The Phantom of the Opera tonight, which played just like a musical, ran for three hours and didn't do anything surprising. Turns out Emmy Rossum can sing. I'm going to bed.

I already did a meme this week, I've filled my quota. But I had to go look anyway. Have you ever seen a show called 'Tracker'? Cause it seems pretty wacky.

There's a place called Miggar where the Daggons live. One of them is Cole. Except he's moved to Chicago, it seems. There are characters named Jess and Mel Porter. Space aliens in Chicago? A place called the Watchfire, probably their mission control, ops center, whatever. Aha! It has to do with Roswell, doesn't it? Hence the aliens. I bet Cole the Daggon from Miggar came down in that ship! There are also Cirronians. Mel is a girl. And there's a Zin. And Vardians! Okay, so maybe Cirronians can be Daggons? Maybe the Daggons are a people of, um. I don't know. This seems to be a comedy.

Oh, now I see. Daggon is Cole's Cirronian name. Of course. The Cirronians are the people of Miggar. It all makes sense now. I still don't know what it is they track, or how they do it, because all these stories are fluffy Cole/Mel shipper things, usually set on major holidays. "Cole gets to know the true meaning of Thanksgiving" and so forth.

I almost want to see an ep now. Or not. I've seen a bit of Man from UNCLE, though. It's pretty entertaining, and Illya's very cute. And very professional. I love hot, professional men. (And they totally do hang out in caves a lot. In the one ep I saw they spent half the time in caves, underwater and otherwise. Illya wore a wetsuit, oddly flattering to his form.)

Back in the day (meaning, when the show was first run on tv), I was quite the UNCLE fangirl. The characters were/are Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum). The boss was, IIRC, Q, played by G. Carroll Nash. Solo wasn't Russian; Illya was.

And Stefanie Powers as the *Girl* from UNCLE! April Something, wasn't it? The character name?

I named my second cat after Illya - my mother could never remember what in hell to call him. :)

One day I will learn to google *before* I post -

April Dancer. And Noel Harrison (son of Rex) as Mark Slate. And it was Leo G. Carroll as Alexander Waverly. (Hey, I had one of the names and the initial right, so I'll take partial credit for the original answer.)

Gingerbread!!! **huggss** the sab

I am on scoial security and fighting to stay on it because of disability....

I know the fear and the feelign of defeat and the lack of moptivation. I dont like it. So, this Christmas, I gave a hundred to The Democratic party. It isnt much but... I remember as a kid, when there was a lot of tension in my hometown between blacks and whites and we took in a black couple with a kid. my father quoted something, and I dont know where it came from but he said..."If we do nothing, in the face of fear, we have learned nothing at all from the past, and the future will be bleak with the sound of tears."... And so I remember... and I do my part. I asee all around me others do theirs as well. There is a great feel of defeat out there, but it aint over yet. And as long as one person tries and reaches and pushes and seeks, it wont be over.

You do so much, yourself, I just want to thank you for all you have done. People like you inspire and give hope.

Girl, I feel your pain. I can say, however, without even a shadow of doubt, I came by it honestly. False guilt...it's the way of my people.

Gingerbread medic, hmm? Fifth place? Cool! But, out of curiosity, what placed first?

I'm pretty sure this is the second random comment on your icons I've made in as many days, in weird places, but...

Your icon. It's mesmerizing. I've been watching it for like five minutes. *hugs plush Stitch*

I was wondering, hon-are you gonna be @ The Roxy on Monday? If so, it would be awesome to see you and hang out, if that's cool with you!

Wonder how my friends and relatives would feel about donations to the DNC in their name for Xmas? Do you guys send holiday cards. Hee. No seriously. I can't think of a more worth cause right now, the party and the people in need of some hope, tired and strung out and disappointed, disillusioned. Wondering how it came to this.

Hugs you, and congratulations to the Gingerbread medic who I hear met an untimely end.

Back in ye olde days of my first flush of fandom (whew) there was something, in the particular place I haunted, known as a "tackle-hug."

They got to be pretty damned annoying really fast, but if there was ever a time that called for a girl to be wrestled, unsuspecting, to the floor in a big puppy-pile o'love, it is you, m'dear.

*refrains anyway* Those things were really damn annoying.
