The development director at the DNC said I was second-guessing her. In my defense, I *was* second-guessing her. I presented her with questions and topics that needed messaging (the DNC's position on Roberts and Miers and cronyism, featured '06 races, the Iraq exit strategy, an independent Katrina commission, Tom DeLay's indictment). She responded with hollow, empty, one-line responses that were, upon only the most casual inspection, not actually responses to the questions asked. To wit:
Q: "What is the DNC's statement on the culture of cronyism in Washingon -- Michael Brown, Harriett Miers and others?"
A: "Howard Dean says the jury is still out on Miers."
Q: "What is the DNC's statement on the lack of unity among Democratic senators? 22 voted to confirm Roberts and 22 voted against."
A: "Howard Dean opposed Roberts' confirmation."
So I sent follow-up questions, and more follow-up questions, and proposed messaging and talking points and she dodged them and stopped responding to me entirely, and a week and a series of conference calls later she was telling the CEO of our company that she'd pull the DNC account unless I was removed from the project.
So I resigned on Friday. My boss is on my side and agrees that the rep at the DNC is a useless bureaucrat and that my questions had merit. Ultimately, I left because it's just not worth the sturm und drang for $12/hour.

I have interviews this week and freelance gigs already lined up. I need to COBRA my insurance and pay rent and I have six bucks in my pocket and I feel FREEEEEEE. And for the first time in months, months, I found

B-- I will respond with which story I think it's from.
C-- an LJ icon from the show of your choice to anyone who stumps me.
Happy Columbus Day, and many more.

I think of that boy, and I make a mental note to clean the freezers tomorrow.
It was so hard to choose. Did I tell you I spent a good part of my breaks, over the summer, just sitting around rereading your fic? Fandoms I knew and fandoms I didn't know and fandoms I wished I knew.
