keep those cards and letters coming

I'm chomping through more
yuletide fics, as a tremendously effective procrastinating tool. This scene is not going to write itself, but maybe if I concentrate real hard it'll be kind enough to, I don't know, outline itself and show me exactly where to cut back and forth from this flashback?
Until then, here's more good stuff I found over Yuletide way, including two things I beta'd...but I won't tell you which two.
Every Good Girl Does Fine, Peanuts, Patty and Marcie and the round-headed kid in high school, and this has made just about everybody's hit list for the same reason: it's super awesome. It is, as someone smarter than me on LJ said, the torpedo of a fic that launches a fandom. I want to spend MORE time with the Peanuts kids, just like this, just muddling through like people. I had a strong suspicion
furies wrote this one, except that I saw her show up in the comments. Hmmm. < looks around >
My Thing, Scrubs, Cox/Ben/JD, set during "My Occurence"/"My Hero" and just delicious. JD is batty and obsessive, and Cox is terrifying and sexy, and Ben is a giant loony bird.
My Match, Scrubs, with JD and Turk being the most awesome interracial gay couple of non-gay best friends ever.
The Bowtie Is Ideology, Jon Stewart/Tucker Carlson, and also recommended by punditslashers everywhere as the fic that best and most frequently uses the words "fellatio" and "bow tie" to the greatest effect. This is, like, what would happen if Jon Stewart took over Dan Savage's column. Heh. I said "column."
Danny, Rebecca, which is for some reason not listed on the fandom quicksearch menu? Or I'm blind. It doesn't matter. This story is creepy and awesome, sort of Danny/Rebecca and Danny/Rebecca/Narrator, but only in that wistful, jealous, almost hostile longing way that the book and movie do it. So good.
Carpe Diem, Odyssey 5, mostly because I have wanted Kurt/Neil for so LONG, and here it is, just like the Hanukkah present I forgot to ask for! Seriously satisfying stuff.
This Is Me Breathing, Odyssey 5, on the other hand, is plotty and clever and spotlights everything I love about each of the characters, where Chuck is proud of his son, and Neil is oversmart and trying so hard to please his dad, and Kurt is neurotic and blinded by desire, and Angela's back...or not. And they are each weighed down by what they know, and what they wish they didn't know. This feels like something
elynross might write. And makes me want more O5 on the air! Or at the very least, more good fic like this.
ETA: Merry Christmas, Dr. Fleischman, Northern Exposure. I saved this one to read because I'm deep in the throes of my Northern Exposure renaissance, and, well, it made sense at the time. I have the S3 boxed set because it's too scratched for Amoeba to buy, and, like my Sports Night and Firefly DVDs, I'm so ridiculously glad to be forced to keep 'em. S3 has one of NX's best Christmas episodes, where Joel justifies having a tree, and it wheeled me Jewish-guiltishly into enjoying our tree, if for no other reason than I'll do anything Joel Fleischman tells me to, and my brand of Judaism can best be described as pop-culturally Jewish. Joel brings the tree to Maggie at the end; he sets it up on her porch and brings her out, eyes closed, to see it all lit up. He said he thought she should have it. This show hasn't lost a thing in fifteen years.
As for this FIC, it does not disappoint. It has really solid Joel AND, surprisingly, EDpov, the voices are pitch-perfect and the story is, in true NX style, heartwarming, festive, and adorable. I want latkes SO BAD. Somewhere in Massachussetts my family's having 'em right now.
And I'm also so thrilled that the fic that was written for me, "Even Later," is getting so well received. It is an awesome, marvelous present.
The link to it is with my previous recs, which are here.

Date: 2005-12-27 11:07 am (UTC)You aren't blind: some fandoms don't show up, and the search engine got e different results for the same search a few times (or none at all). I hope the list of all stories is complete, i'd hate to miss a fandom I love because I can't find it.
And thanks for the recs!

Date: 2005-12-27 12:39 pm (UTC)As someone who really (and I mean really) enjoys your writing, I'm tickled beyond words that you liked "Carpe Diem." For all his flaws, I really love Kurt, and I feel sorry for poor Neil, stuck on his second go-round in high school. They both deserve to be happy, and if that happiness includes sweet wine and hot sex? So much the better.
