Why won't my iTunes launch? [livejournal.com profile] megolas is our King.

I click on the icon, and I get the arrow cursor and then the arrow/hourglass cursor for a moment, and then just the arrow cursor while the computer thinks, and then the arrow/hourglass a little, and then just the arrow and it's all over and NO PROGRAM LAUNCHES? [ETA: !? interbang!]

Some things worth knowing:
iTunes USED to work.
iTunes has all my MUSIC in it, and what's weird is I can't find my music on my hard drive EXCEPT going through iTunes. Where my music at?
I have UNINSTALLED and REINSTALLED iTunes, and it STILL won't launch.

I have navigated to it/attempted to launch it from:
my desktop icon
my My Programs/Start menu list item
Windows Explorer
navigating to the C: drive from the desktop "My Computer"
the c: prompt (except who the hell knows if I actually found it, I have no idea what command in the DOS shell iTunes wants, for launching)
the iTunes icon in the window that pops up when I plug my iPod in

:: in all of those cases, I get the arrow/hourglass/just the arrow/anticlimactic no-launching adventure of nothingness as chronicled above.

More things worth knowing:
I have a PC running Windows XP
it detects and launches my iPod when the iPod is plugged in

*

Please, please help me. I have about two hundred songs sitting here in my "new music" folder (where "new music" designates tracks I have downloaded since the fall of iTunes) that I would love to get onto my iPod.

Also, I would really really like to know where all my MUSIC is, the music that used to be listed in my iTunes library!

So I can, among other things, upload it and share it with y'all.

Not sure about why it won't load (have you done an alt-ctrl-del and seen if it's hanging or not responding? any chance that it's minimizing to the systems tray?) but itunes on pc likes to store music in a folder called 'itunes'. I think mine was inside my My Music folder originally but I've since changed it to just be the My Music folder.

Have you tried searching your computer for a specific mp3 that is in iTunes? You may have to ask it to include hidden files/folders.

Bwee! I am glad I could help! I don't know why it wouldn't launch in the first place but it is possible to set it up minizise to the system try (I have it set up to do so) and sometime I think it hasn't launched when it has.

Also, start -> run -> iTunes.exe will bring mine up. I wasn't sure if you'd tried that prompt. It has to have the capital T.
