The fifteen songs my $39 mp3 player will play me, out of the 500 songs saved to selfsame player. Ver. guess-from-the-lyrics-what they are.

There's a definite, um. Theme. Left to be identified are two non-Regina Spektor tracks and three Regina Spektor tracks, thanks to my very discerning tiny mp3 player.

*

1. been stuck in airports, terrorized, sent to meetings hypnotized, overexposed, commercialized (Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care" as sung by Jenny Lewis, thx [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 and [livejournal.com profile] sloganeer)

2. let's get a silver bullet trailer and have a baby boy, I'll safety pin his clothes all cool and you'll graffiti up his toys (More Regina Spektor, "Folding Chair")

3. well I'll look at it this way, I mean, technically our marriage is saved (Panic! At the Disco, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," thanks, [livejournal.com profile] arglefraster!)

4. but now the fields are all four lanes, and the moon's not just a name, are you more amazed at how things change or how they stay the same? (Cheryl Wheeler's sniffly "75 Septembers")

5. oh little bag of cocaine, oh little bag of cocaine, oh who's the girl wearing my dress (More Regina Spektor, "Hotel Song," as per [livejournal.com profile] janet_carter)

6. I remember all the house parties that took place, bein' in my bed upstairs and we could still feel the bass (It's "Miss Dy-na-mi-tee," by Miss Dynamite, thank ye [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy!)

7. I don't wanna know if you've got a gun or a new stepson or you think you're gonna bail (The hot new single from Nellie McKay, PETA Anthem "Columbia is Bleeding")

8. he steps right into somebody's fat loogie and everyone who sees him says "ew" ([livejournal.com profile] _swallow correctly located "The Ghost of Corporate Future," yet another Regina Spektor song.)

9. lately I've been thinking about combustication as a welcome vacation from the burdens of the planet earth, like gravity, hypocrisy and the perils of being in 3-D (Is "Pardon Me" by Incubus, go team [livejournal.com profile] sloganeer)

10. they'll grow right through if I don't watch it, they'll grow right through even if I watch it and a sunset wouldn't save me now (And yet MORE Regina Spektor, "Baobabs")

11. you know I took the poison from the poison stream and then I floated out of here (This, of course, is U2's "Running to Stand Still," as found by [livejournal.com profile] ubixtiz and [livejournal.com profile] pene too)

12. in the he said/she said sometimes there's some poetry if you sit back and let it happen naturally (Is Ani DiFranco's "Hell Yeah," thanks to Missus [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun)

13. I bang my own drum, some think it's noise, I think it's pretty! (As [livejournal.com profile] marinwood correctly stated, The Divine Ms. Gloria Gaynor sings "I Am What I Am" as part of a gay pride mix that samples, among other things, the Northern Exposure theme song. Faaaahhbulous!)

14. she will kiss you till your lips bleed, but she will not take her dress off (The first Regina Spektor song to be identified correctly herein: "Sailor Song," found by [livejournal.com profile] arglefraster)

15. he's got enough money to bother someone else, to solder two wires together, someone else (Finally still more Regina Spektor, "Scarecrow & Fungus")

16. it might have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline, but on the Che Guevara Highway filling up with gasoline Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying over luxury disappointments (The fifteen fame-filled minutes of a fanzine writer, or, Billy Bragg's "Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards," identified and toe-tagged by the illustrious four-star [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur)
