Tonight it was snowing and I put my refrigerator coat and my domino blanket and four beers in a bag, because this homeless woman came into the L and took a stack of newspapers, and I went out and walked fifteen blocks past midnight and she wasn't there.

.phone message from a Swarthmore alum who had my resume "on file" and might have a job for me.
