It occurs to me there's gotta be a whole new generation of XF fans who have never seen the "Why Won't You Love Me, David Duchovny?" vid (youtube link).

Back in '98, two XF assistants (who are actually my buddies, Will and Chuck) made this vid across the Fox lot for a birthday present for David. It's got, oh. Everyone in the world in it. George Clooney? Janeane Garofalo? Sarah Michelle Gellar? Yeah, that's right.

Anyway, it's time to dig up this old relic, which was at one point exchanged from fan to fan on VHSs (I drove around with about ten copies in the trunk of my car, just in case...) and now is on youtube to be immortalized forever.

David Duchovny, Why Won't You Love Me?

*also sobs*

It's a shame the quality of the youtube transfer is so crappy. But then again, each of these VHSs that got further and further from LA got more and more degraded as people dubbed and dubbed...

Oh, pre-digital fandom! How did we ever get BY?

Oh, lordy. I have it on VHS as well. And remember DLing it (all, what, 9.5 MB?) for an hour over dialup just to have a digital copy as well.

I re-found it on YouTube a couple years ago and showed it to my work-colleagues, right after indoctrinating them into the Chinese Backstreet Boys.

I love it. Is your digital version better than these crappy Youtube versions?

I found a couple where the sound syncs up better, even if the overall quality still sucks:

Oh, oh, better! Thank you.

The random people on the street singing along are far more entertaining when they're synched. *g*

Oh, nostalgia...

Yes indeed, it was bugging me so I went digging.

I think my favorite part is still Chris Carter. :)

You do realize it's entirely your fault I've had this song in my head ALL DAY.

Actually, I like the song, but it can GO AWAY NOW.

Hahaha, tape trees. Good times, good times.

Thanks for the memory.

Heee! I also went looking for better quality but I suspect the one I found is one of those [livejournal.com profile] noelleleithe found. The only drawback is that I've been singing it all day and that's gonna get old. ;) I absolutely love SMG lip-syncing the 'I'm gonna kill Scully!' line and waving her stake around! LOL

Oooh, I had that on a tape with the S6 bloopers!(The ones where DD throws Michael McKean up against the wall and starts humping him, or maybe it's the other way around.) Also I had a cassette tape of the whole Bree Sharp album someone sent me. As I recall, it wasn't bad.

awww! AWWWW! I actually just got rid of my VHS fan-traded tape of this a while back. OH, TEN YEARS AGO. I used to have a crappy animated .gif of SMG doing the stabby-stab with her stake and mouthing "I wanna kill Scully!" Siiiiigh, nostalgia.
