Through the Sontaran two-parter...

I'm totally on board with Rose saying "Donna" in the quick viewscreen clip we get of her (as I've seen around the internet -- most notably in a current conversation on [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl's LJ; see also [livejournal.com profile] twentyfivepast).

I just have this suspicion, this prediction that Rusty's setting Rose up to be the 11th Doctor. (Something about...her persona seeping through to this universe non-corporeally, and then getting to be corporeal when Ten regenerates...? I haven't worked out the physics yet. *g*)

Actually, I had genuine lump-in-the-throat terror when the Doctor went up with his nuke to give the Sontarans a second change; I was fully prepared for him to die up there and regenerate as Rose right now. I thought, "spoilers have told us we'll have Rose, Martha, Donna and Jack all together this season -- but nobody mentioned, specifically, Ten being around when it happens!"

Still, whew.

But what happens above is that Donna shouts for the Doctor in the viewscreen, and ROSE reports back, saying "Donna!" In response to Donna's call for the Doctor. So. You see.

As for the something on Donna's back -- I think the theory that it's Rose is totally viable (esp if I'm off base with this 11th Doctor business) -- but I have this suspicion that Donna's "Bad Wolf" clues this season actually have something significant to do with Grandpa Wilf. I think he's the Bad Wolf of this season, somehow, somewhen.

We also got another clue in the Ood ep, but I've forgotten what it was; I'll go back and check. But just like the Atmos labels were telegraphed from ep one (look at the cars; they've got Atmos stickers in the windows), we're very clearly telegraphing something else, to come, and there was another clue along those lines in the Ood ep that I'll go look for.

While we're at it, part 1: Martha took the engagement ring OFF THE CLONE. Are we to believe the clone was the real Martha? Or that the clone was the one engaged to Tom? I think this one we have walking around now, engaged, wearing the ring, leaving the Sontarans is NOT MARTHA. But I think it'll take some Captain Jack and Torchwood before we actually get a reveal on this one.

While we're at it, part 2: I'm choosing not to care about the Mary Sueitude of the Pretty Blonde Daughter. I mean, he was a dad once. Why not now?

(And then my totally wild unlikely speculation comes where Rose is the 11th Doctor and this is HER daughter... Heh.)

I do like the speculation that's circulating (not mine) that it's some Doctor/Master offspring, or some Doctor/Master/Fingernail of the Rani offspring...?

Anyway. Donna clues. Something on her back. Wilf. Rose as the 11th Doctor. More to come. Feel free to speculate wildly in comments too.

That flat-out can't work - Rose is a human, not a Time Lord.

Martha took the ring off the clone, not the other way around.

Right, Martha took the ring off the clone. How did the clone get the ring in the first place...?

And I wouldn't put anything past Rusty. *g*

It took it off Martha when it took the rest of her clothes. Labcoat and all.

Hmmm, I missed that, then.

We see the clone in Martha's clothes. We don't actually get the scene where they strip Martha and dress the clone, but we can still infer that Martha's clothes (inc. wedding ring) have been taken off so that the clone can impersonate Martha more convincingly. Besides, the Doctor can smell clones, and detects the switch immediately.

Rose can't become the next Doctor. The Doctor regenerates as himself! I mean, it's not a job vacancy that gets filled.

So, what I'm saying is, your speculation is weird!

I like your shoes, though.

The other things that've been mentioned more than once are a) the Medusa cascade (I'd bet the bank on this being relevant) and b) all the bees disappearing on Earth. And, I mean, of course there's the whole parenthood/families theme, but that one's obvious by now.

I don't see Rose being set up to be the next Doctor - I like the reading of the "Doctor!" "Donna!" call, but I just can't quite buy it - but I do agree that Grandpa Wilf knows more than he's saying. :D

Doctor Who is the best conspiracy-theory fandom EVER!

Yes! The Medusa cascade!

It's hard to tell if the bees are significant or just a hilarious pop culture reference; either way, *I'm* freaked out about them -- where'd they all GO? Beeees?? Where are all the beeeees??

It freaks me out too! I have some pet bees (well, bees that I hang out with on my back porch) and I am always eyeing them carefully to make sure that they don't suddenly transport themselves in to an alternate universe. BEES! STAY HERE WITH US!

The Master said that the Doctor had sealed the Rift at the Medusa Cascade in The Sound of Drums or Last of the Time Lords - can't remember which. So yeah, I'm thinking that's important too.

The girlfriend and I rewound the preview after the Doctor's daughter kissed the person through the prison bars, all, "DUDE WAS SHE MAKIN' OUT WITH A GIRL?" Status: unclear. Soooo I'll be watching for potential lesbians!

Dude I know! DW girlslash goggles! Lesbian Doctor Daughter is just the sort of thing Rusty should do, but then, he's a little a-skeered of the vagina, I think. *g*

ALSO, I called you people. On the PHONE even. I am eagerly anticipating some presents, and also providing some presents for YOU. So, get yer groove on!

I was so sure that was a girl, I didn't even rewind!

I TOTALLY THOUGHT THAT WAS A GIRL. In the trailer she's kissing someone, then it cuts to the Doctor's face and he looks vaguely boggled...like you half expect him to say, "that's my daughter...and she's a lesbian."

I dunno. I don't like the idea of Rose being the next doctor. She's human, and I'm not ready to give up David Tennant yet.

Oh, I don't like the idea of it either. It's actually causing great panic. It's just what I'm afraid is going to happen!

Yes! Because I discussed this with Trin, and we're both like, man, this would make us stop watching.

Thinky thoughts:

I'm thoroughly enjoying the fact that Georgia Moffett (the woman playing the Doctor's daughter) is Peter Davison's daughter. Too. Funny.

I think what's on Donna's back is a giant spider. We first met her with the whole giant spider thing, and there were Old School Who villains which were giant spiders that cling to your back and then infiltrate your brain.

We also got another clue in the Ood ep, but I've forgotten what it was; I'll go back and check.

The Ood were singing their song, and one of them says to the Doctor something like "Your song is coming to an end".

And Martha removed her engagement ring from the clone, which the Sontarans had put on the clone to fool the Doctor (and everyone else).

I *LOVED* when the Doctor sent the rocket up to set the atmosphere on fire how he crossed his fingers for luck. Oh, Ten, you are delightful.

"Are you my mummy?" BWAH. Ten makes his own fun. And his hair WILL NOT BE DEFEATED, even by the straps of a gas mask. It tried to escape in all directions at once.

*heart*

I agree with everything you said here, and that was TOTALLY the clue from the Ood! Thank you!

Well, except that I think it's Rose on Donna's back, or even more probably something regarding Wilf that we haven't learned yet.

Oh, and I think he did that thing that British people do, where he held up two fingers instead of crossing them? Or is that what you meant? I mean, for luck. It amounts to the same thing. *g*

Holding up two fingers would never happen on a kids' show - it's quite quite rude. :D He crosses his fingers - the camera moves fast from the rocket launcher up his body to his face, but it's very very clear that he crosses his fingers for luck while saying "Please please please please please".

TEN! I HEART YOU!

Also, when the Ood said "Your song is coming to an end", the soundtrack blended into the theme from Doomsday for a few measures. *chills*

I'm so glad you pointed out that Rose was saying "Donna," because I totally thought she was saying "Doctor" until I read this post...then I went back to watch and you were right!

I suppose if Rose were saying "Doctor!" I would kind of want to tell her to get a life or something.

A female Doctor has been something speculated about for eons, and of course they did it in the Children for Need sketch from the 90s (aka The One Where The Doctor And The Master End Up Deciding To Get Married), and who knows, they might do it one day - but not with Rose. Aside from the necessary human/Time Lord transformation (which could be gotten around via various Whoverse means, even leaving the Chameleon arch aside - the Master when running out of regenerations back in ye olde days went into bodynapping, for example), there is my very big doubt Billie Piper would commit as a lead or anything but a special, a season at the utmost, the way her career has taken off and they're not doing an Eccleston again. (DT's career has also taken off, but he's a genuine fan of the show, so able to commit.)

The Greg Doran (= director of the RSC Hamlet) interview I linked a couple of days ago has Doran mentioning, re: casting Tennant, "there was a long time where we had to keep it under our hats whilst the BBC sorted out his temporary vacation of the TARDIS", so, "temporary".

Martha and the clone: that has been answered by others, I see (i.e. the clone originally took Martha's clothes and the ring, Martha took it back).

Re: big companionalooza: if you've watched The Sarah Jane Adventures, my suspicion is that something from Whatever Happened To Sarah Jane? will come into play there. In said episode, the villain temporarily changed the universe and took first Sarah Jane, then others out of it (they either died as children or never existed), and he specifically was interested in the Doctor from Sarah's memories and said he wanted to go after him. I suspect that's something that will happen (and also why Elisabeth Sladen is scheduled as one of the many guest stars at this season's end), and the Doctor-lite episode this season is one where we get to see the universe where he didn't exist or died a long time ago, and then the companions will work together to put the timeline back to Doctor-existence.

You're so right about Companionpalooza; see my LJ post today, I can barely stand the thought of it. *palpitates*

BUT, I think Billie Piper would drop everything to be the 11th Doctor. And while Tennant's profound fanboyishness keeps him close to the Whoverse at all times, since this is probably his last season I can just. See it happening. Either at the end of this aired season or in one of next year's movies.

And I can't stand the thought of THAT either.

Conclusion: Don't take Tennant from me, or I'll become very cross.

I doubt very, very, very much to the point of being willing to wager significant sums of money, that Rose will not be Eleven.

Takers?
