1. Is there any way to browse only comments I've left in other journals and comms? Which is to say, I want to find a particular thing from about two years ago that got posted to an LJ comm; I know I commented on the entry so it would be much easier for me to browse my comments than to browse the entire LJ... yes? No?

2. If I use certain tags only on private/flocked posts, will those TAGS be visible in my tag cloud to people not on the filters that see the posts with those tags?

Thank you, and have a pleasant afternoon.

1. Unfortunately, I think you can only use the "Recent Comments" feature to check comments you've left, and as the name suggests, that's only comments you've left recently. :\ I tend to not clean out my inbox much, so I can sometimes search it by keyword and find the right comment, but I have no idea how you might go about tracking that.

2. No! I have tested this myself by signing out, and tags I used on filtered entries weren't visible when I was signed out. So that's some good news.

My understanding is that Recent Comments only show recent comments made to your own journal (by anyone, you and others) - not 'any' recent comments you made across the system... But I might be wrong, and now I'm curious. *goes to check*

I think that below the recent ones left in your journal there's a section for ones you've recently left in other journals? Admittedly, though, it's been a couple of years since I used it.

1. No, that I know of - my way of equivalent is to have LJ send me the comments I leave by email (as well as those I receive), and to go browse in gmail when I'm looking for something (yes, this is also how I archive fic I read; if I commented on it, I get it in my inbox :D).

2. only people allowed to read posts bearing a certain tag will see that tag in the list. So if you have a tag that gets used only on private posts, no one but you will see it in the list. On a personal note: I used to do exactly that, and mysteriously ALL THE POSTS THAT BORE THIS PRECISE TAG VANISHED. As in, the tag appears (for me) in the list still but bearing a count of ZERO posts, and the posts are not THERE anymore. I had the precise URLS for some of these saved, and these URLS now give me 'no entry there' responses. To my knowledge, only posts that I did tag with a unique-to-private tag AND which were private got affected in this way - but of course it is possible that some other posts of mine that I have not been trying to access did also vanish. Needless to say, the private-post+germane-tag method is not one I use anymore.

I posted a support request for it about 4 months ago. Nothing happened since. (I have not been hacked either).

Yeah, deleting my LJ notifications from gmail was clearly my first mistake. *g*

So now I get to go through two years of comm posts. Good thing it's air conditioned in here.

Thanks to both of you for the info!

Wow, that glitch sucks. LJ just deleted some of your entries?!

Yup. And let me tell you, the stuff I put up on a private filter with a tag for later perusal is usually *important*. One of these tags was for some writing which I've now lost, and the other all-private tag I had was even worse: passwords to other accounts for other online stuff like RPG journals, webservices like delicious, etc. The only reason I did not commit seppuku when these vanished is that I am paranoid enough and had those entries all saved locally.

You might be able to use LJSeek's advanced search to search the comm for your own name.

You know! I think that would have absolutely worked if it hadn't said that the comm I requested was an "invalid journal." Thanks for the link, I had no idea ljseek had an advanced search and it seems the sort of thing that I will definitely need in the future!

I usually use Google -- query "site:http://community.livejournal.com/communityname" plus whatever keywords you're looking for.

AFAIK, tags used only on locked posts still show up in the tags cloud.
