I'm pretty sure my cat's name is Lauren.

Not Hawkeye; he's still Hawkeye and furry and trucking along for 11 years now.

No, this is the kitten that Julie and I adopted a year ago, known as "the kitten" who was christened "Houlihan" to go with Hawkeye but who promptly (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] projectjulie and LJ user me) became known as Hula Hoop. Or "The Hoop," to me, and "Hula" to others (I never cared for that nickname). So then there was the Hawk and the Hoop, and that was nice when they were on the stoop, or had to poop, but at other non-rhyming times, it became taxing.

And then today she said, "hi, I'm Lauren."

Anyway, Hawkeye and Lauren and I bid you a good night.

And Lauren has to be one of the most ridiculous names for a cat I have ever heard. But it all of a sudden became CLEAR AS DAY.

ETA Now she's staring at me like *I'm* crazy. Yes! What! Lauren! Get over it! She looks especially like a Lauren when she's sleeping near my ear, which is where she was when she decided to climb down and stare. What! You've got food! Hawkeye loves you! That's it, Lauren. There there now. Purr.

You can't fight these things. With dogs, you can change their names any time you like and they'll go, "Oh, really? COOL!" Cats, no way. Their choice, not yours.

Nice of her to tell you. :-)

Oh man, I feel you. We had a momma cat give birth to five kittens (3 tabby, 2 B&W) in 2001 and named them Eenie, Meenie and Meiney for the tabbie and Oscar and Felix for the B&W ones. Well, three of them went off to new homes and we were stuck with Felix and Eenie. Well, Felix is a fine name for a cat, but an Eenie without a Meenie and Meiney is just sad.

One day, she just walked up to me and said, "My name is Annabelle." And that was that. Weird as hell name for cat, but there you go.

hahaha, she does remind me of lauren from alias. though lauren is a very strange name for a cat, i must admit.

then again, phinneas isn't a whole lot more usual.

with cats, i find i have to try out a lot of different names. and then there's one that like, the cat looks and goes, FINALLY. dogs are a lot easier. luckily, i have lots of favorite literary characters, and not that many cats, so my naming scheme is all good.

(also, how much ambien were you on when you discovered this? ;) )

My friend's family could not decide on a name for their cat, so for almost ten years she's been various things to various people but basically just "Cat." Last year we were baking, and when I said the word "cupcake" she looked at me. I repeated it, and she responded again. So now the grumpiest, flightiest, judgy-est cat in the world is named Cupcake.

Aww. Lauren seems like a great name for a cat!

Some things do become totally clear on Ambien.

WHAT! STOP TALKING TO ME!

I am used to there being more Laurens in school with me but not on the internet. I never got used to my name in real life and I am definitely not used to being Lauren on the internet. Just seeing it repeated so many times here is giving me major dissociation. How is that possibly my name!! Ha.
