I'm going through a minor league XF renaissance, which mostly means I'm watching it very quietly for the first time in years, for the first time since I started hating Chris Carter and how he totally fucked us like cheap whores. But recently I watched all of Supernatural by accident, and somehow just enjoyed it as a show about paranormal stuff, without really caring about the boys or the emotional arc or the drama. And I thought, wouldn't it be great to have a show with paranormal stuff, but starring a hot heterosexual couple who fight hard with each other but love each other till the very end?

So you see what happened there. Out of respect for an earlier time, when I loved the X-Files with a fiery passion, and in honor of this current rewatching where I'm not only enjoying the simple pleasures of Mulder and Scully and the show but I'm also remembering a simpler time (there's seriously a line in 1998's "Triangle" where Mulder insists to the WWII era officers that the should come to '98, the world's at peace, the only drama is Monica Lewinsky! and I experienced pre-syncope just remembering what that felt like [yes, now in a more enlightened time I realize we were all managing to ignore atrocities in Africa and elsewhere in the early 90s]).

Enjoy, if you're interested, the newly archived, found via the wayback machine, very first X-Files story I ever wrote. I wasn't even in the fandom, I just sat down and wrote an X-Files story and then went to the internet to find where people were posting those things. As I said, a simpler time.

(Rain, and the Mistaken Messiah [MSR, 10k words, rated R, old-school to the nth degree])

I'm going to stop watching at the beginning of season 7 so as not to harsh my renewed squee. I mean, right?

I'm pretty sure I left you feedback for that story on atxc.

And, recently, in the DVD aisle at Costco, I realized there were NINE SEASONS of XF. I STILL can't entirely believe it or count that high. I know you have to stop watching after Mulder leaves (for the first time); I just can't remember which season that is.

You did. You told me Mulder would never pull a gun on Scully like I had him do. You were absolutely right. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Wait...you're Sabine? Did I know that? I don't think I knew that... Did I? I remember you. I think you started writing XF fic around when I stopped. I don't have time to read that now, but I will later tonight. Huh...small world!

And my weekend is made. Awesome.

Agreed with stopping early in your rewatch, too. V. good plan.

Hee, as much as Mulder would never pull a gun on Scully, and neither of them would probably beat on each other, there's still a lot of good stuff going on. The main tensions of the show are there. Mulder doesn't get what Scully's thinking and Scully doesn't get that Mulder's really that screwed up. Sex is the most normal thing they can do together. It's awesome times! And Mulder standing with his face up against the wall to cry has stuck with me since the first time I read it.

I'm happy to read about your mini revival. I like Requiem, but I hate the 'resolution' of the Samantha arc, so I skip around once I hit s7.

i have seasons 1-4 that i want to sit down and rewatch. i can't remember where the movie comes in - after s5, right? so 6 is a logical stopping point. but i think i disliked 6. i can't remember. tell me, oh wise older sister! and maybe i'll write more than 500 words of scully someday. though honestly, i don't think i'll ever be able to write MSR in the true MSR fashion - i'd have to BSG it, or something.

I'm coming to the end of s4 in my rewatch, and just loving it. If you do finish at s7 then at least skip to the final two eps when Mulder comes back and catch the final five minutes of the original OTP. swoon.

Actually I just watched the second movie for the first time the other day. Didn't light my fire, but I like the thought of them out there together somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

The show ends with "Je Souhaite." Whether or not all that wacky stuff in S7 (STARLIGHT CHILDREN*) actually happened is up to you, but that is how the show ends. QED. So watch that one.

*Okaaaaaay, I might have cried just a little bit when there was all that pretty blue light and that pretty Moby song playing and Mulder looking so happy and I was eighteen and a half when that aired and certifiably insane, sue me.
