While I was busy being completely distracted by David Tennant Doctor Who S4, I forgot to rec two very important things!

[livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs wrote what everyone needs and wants, namely, 6,200 words of Barney/Robin HIMYM awesomeness. Read 'A' Game. It's spot on Barney pov, all cocky and frustrated and confused and spins off from just where we left them, round about "The Goat." Which leads me to wonder (as I'm in a clues state of mind) if perhaps BARNEY will also be living in Ted's apt come his next birthday when we've learned Robin's living there? Um, regardless, read this fic. It's friggin awesome.

Elsewhere, the gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] wihluta recorded a [podfic] of my Jack/Hand story, "I really can't stay." She gives great voice to both the Hand and Ianto, and I was really blown away by the beautiful reading of my fic. Go! Listen! Feedback!

The bees are, as we all know, disappearing. [link to Reuters]

The wiki entry on CCR, or Colony Collapse Disorder has slightly more speculation/info on the phenomenon.

cell phones sending bees to space? It's GWEN's fault )

Elsewhere on the internets, Haagen-Dazs has started their own "Save the Ice Cream! Save the Bees!" Heroes-style season pitch: Help the Honeybees is totally ice-cream sponsored, but still pretty interesting.

I'm just saying. There are things we can blame on Harriet Jones, and then there's the bees disappearing. *g*

It occurs to me there's gotta be a whole new generation of XF fans who have never seen the "Why Won't You Love Me, David Duchovny?" vid (youtube link).

Back in '98, two XF assistants (who are actually my buddies, Will and Chuck) made this vid across the Fox lot for a birthday present for David. It's got, oh. Everyone in the world in it. George Clooney? Janeane Garofalo? Sarah Michelle Gellar? Yeah, that's right.

Anyway, it's time to dig up this old relic, which was at one point exchanged from fan to fan on VHSs (I drove around with about ten copies in the trunk of my car, just in case...) and now is on youtube to be immortalized forever.

David Duchovny, Why Won't You Love Me?
sab: (xf >> the man the myth the monotone)
THE CAST and crew of the upcoming "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" were just a few weeks into filming in Vancouver when Frank Spotnitz, the co-writer and co-producer with creator-director Chris Carter, called star David Duchovny over to a laptop computer to watch a fan-made video on YouTube. It was a montage of scenes from the old "X-Files" show set to Sarah McLachlan's forlorn "When She Loved Me."

"It was intensely romantic and it almost brought tears to my eyes," Duchovny recalled.

So I wrote The ACME Judgment Company (Uncloseted Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] loneraven, which was a frickin' thrill to write. M*A*S*H's S4 "The More I See You" might be my favorite ep of all time and I've seen it enough times to recite it (*sighs,* master complicator) but I shook it up, changing the dialogue to suit my whims and, more importantly, to shape the story [livejournal.com profile] loneraven told in Closet. The above was made possible by a charitable grant from [livejournal.com profile] furies, without whom this would be a rambling, nonsensical thing.

Later, I wrote Nothing Exciting Happens Here (The Feels Like Home Remix) which remixed a charmingly smutty little Sarah Jane Smith/Rose Tyler PWP. [livejournal.com profile] vandonovan provided just the right amount of Classic Who trivia and solved all my canon questions, and [livejournal.com profile] hils made sure I was actually speaking Britishish. It was a pinch-hit for [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k, but please allow me to direct your attention to the other remix netgirl received, namely The Boy Who Killed Time. If you're nostalgic for old docs and companions, or, rather, simply want to see how the tapestry of history is woven, and rewoven, go read that story instead. It's by [livejournal.com profile] rosa_acicularis and made me very glad that netgirl got two remixes, because while my Rose/Sarah Jane totally doesn't suck, this Boy Who Killed Time is a cut above; outstanding in its field.

Aaaaaaand, I'd thank my remixer but s/he hasn't revealed herself!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose, for the moody, weirdly manipulative and intuitive remix Savile Row (The Glass Menagerie Remix), again, one of the two remixes of my Savile Row ficlet. The other remix was written by [livejournal.com profile] eve11, entitled Threads (The Backstitch in time Remix.

IJS, if you haven't read all three of these yet you're missing out. Read the original first and then check out both remixes, to see the art of remix in all its splendor and glory. [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose, [livejournal.com profile] eve11, I can't thank you enough.

So y'all got like fifteen hours or something to guess which remix(es) -- [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08 -- I wrote. The finest muffins and bagels in all the land shall be showered upon anyone who guesses right! Also a ficlet of your choice.

Aaaaannd, I think I know who wrote mine and will see if I'm right tomorrow!

I'm attempting some minor home construction right now. I'll be back.

But also how is it that there's nothing in the universe that is as awesome as HIMYM?
sab: (himym >> the robin and barney operetta)
I am also rendered nearly speechless by tonight's HIMYM. How the hell are able to cram THAT MUCH AWESOME into twenty-two minutes?

...as I make my way through the 50 or so I have bookmarked to read:

I Am Become (Death), a B5 remix, answers, among other things, a question I've had for years. What WAS it like for Lyta to awaken the sleeper personality in Talia, this woman she had known back in psy school, with whom she had been "close, for a time." And then it takes me exactly where I wanted to go next, that post-series Lyta and G'Kar off to explore the universe; and of course a lot of that is formed by the loss of Talia, of Bester, of Lyta's links to the Corps. There's a sentence in there that made me gasp, that made me say "of course!" while also being so incredibly impressed that the author managed to pull it off, and that it had never once occurred to me before.

Ouroboros (Points in Time and Space Mix), a gentle XF AU that takes the absolute simplest change and makes it terrifying. Growing up I was obsessed with Richard Bach's "The Bridge Across Forever," a vaguely metaphysical lovestory. Later, Bach wrote a prequel/sequel called "One," describing a path not taken where the lovers never met. That sent an icicle through my heart much in the way this story does (despite that not being what happens in this remix; the mood remains the same). Oh, ow, the love, the. Just.

there was a war (that that don't kill me can only make me stronger mix), Doctor Who, TARDIS-pov. She really is bigger on the inside, and she's risked her life, again and again, to protect the Doctor and the ones he loves -- and the ones he hates.

Elsewhere, and in other news, I just purchased the hottest dress ever made. No, I am pretty confident that no one, anywhere, has a hotter dress than mine. I'm obviously going to use it to woo David Tennant. Once [livejournal.com profile] projectjulie is here I bet there will even be pictures. OMG HOT DRESS DUDE SO SO HOT.

Read these remixes! And, what, NOBODY's got a guess on which ones I wrote? One of them is so abundantly obvious (to me!)...

LOVE,
SAB

So I got the same story remixed for both [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble and [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08, and they are each, independently, totally awesome. I'm fully planning a longer post that looks at them both in even more detail and how they totally illustrate the great art of the remix! But until then:

Savile Row (The Glass Menagerie Remix) came for me in [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08.

Threads (The Backstitch in Time Remix) came by way of [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble

Are both remixes of my short little Doctor Who ficlet Savile Row.

They're Doctor Who, the Doctor and Martha, and I actually think both the remixes are even MORE impressive if you read the original first (do it! Not just because I'm self-pimping but mostly because it shows what amazing, clever, remarkable twists both my remixers provided...) and are just. This is how remix works. Once again, Awesome Lottery? Winner: ME.

**

So ALSO. I wrote two remixes this year; guess 'em and you get a ficlet in the corresponding fandom JUST FOR YOU. One I think is fairly obvious, and the other -- heh, well, *I* think it sounds like me...

And if you are [that one beta] or [the other beta]: HUSH!

I say, just guess and guess and I'll screen my replies if you're right. *g*

Boy, I wasn't kidding about winning the Awesome lottery. Aside from the three amazing remixes I got out of [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble -- and seriously, go read them, people! They're drabbles; it won't hurt a bit! -- I somehow managed to score a fourth remixed drabble, in a fourth fandom entirely:

The City Never Sleeps (The Geologic Timescale Remix), a remix of my wee Elizabeth Weir flashfic Brevity. The remixer hit at least two of my favorite SGA kinks, and gave the story an entirely new perspective. All this in a hundred words! Go, see.

And of course, while I'm at it, [livejournal.com profile] xf2orbust, because we're almost at the tipping point where X-Files 2 trailers and rumors will come out in earnest -- the twenty-first century is when everything changes, and you gotta be ready.

Is it just me, or is anyone else having a really hard time paying attention to the plots of these most recent NCIS episodes because we're too distracted by Ziva's new eyebrows?

I can't take it! Where's my curly-haired bushy-browed not-actually-Jewish Officer David???

ETA: The eyebrows seem to be getting better in 5x13! Though they have got to cool it with the makeup. Ziva is way too hot to be hidden behind eyeshadow, FGS.

If you're on Facebook, do come join the most important community ever created, namely: If Chris Carter Screws Us Over This Time, We're Never Speaking To Him Again.

Here on LJ, come join [livejournal.com profile] xf2orbust, aka, the same thing, but here in the fandomverse.

No, no, for serious. If you are also dreading this movie and its many, many potential opportunities to re-infect us with an anger and frustration we've only just gotten over -- if Chris Carter does it to us again -- if this movie is not the satisfying conclusion we need and deserve, I tell ya, rabbles will be roused! Marches will be marched! Protests and boycotts will be protested and boycotted!

Me, I need about three months to psych myself up for this movie and/or prepare myself for the inevitable disappointment. You too? Come join. [livejournal.com profile] xf2orbust!

Tell yer friends.

Just, quick. I've been watching the X-Files Colonization Collection which is full of all my favorite eps from season 6 when Diana Fowley's around and Mulder's Jesus...

And I'm hitting all these bits of dialogue that launched a thousand fics at this time, with Scully and Diana fighting over Mulder, and, I WANT.

My memory of that fandom is so hazy, I have no way of knowing if this is a fic or fics I've actually read or whether it's simply the sort of thing that zillions of people wrote fic about --

I want one where Scully's in Africa or whatever and Mulder's in the hospital being psychic with Diana, and Scully's all pining for his "beautiful mind" (seriously, do you remember this, people? OH SHOW), and then she comes back, and, whatever. I'm definitely looking for something unapologetically shippery -- is it out there? Where's this fic? It must be somewhere! If you've seen it, or anything similar, or even remotely similar, tell me, will ya?
